Excellent show, have a real soft spot for it for some reason.

I didn't mind the swearing for the most part but for certain characters it did seem a bit out of place, especially Syphe and Lenore who hadn't done so at any point in the 3 previous seasons.

Second episode of Inside No 9 was much better than last week but still comfortably mid tier.

It's not bad! I like a lot of the people involved in the production mainly, Ron D Moore, Ira Steven Behr and Bear McCreary. It was because of them, I gave it go. Very well acted show. Great production values. Nice character drama.

Outlander is probably my favourite show. I love that whole time period and Jamie is probably my favourite historical TV character since Major Richard Sharpe. The Mrs proper fancies him too (and who wouldn't? ) I did secretly wish Connor from AC3 would show up during the 'events' at the end of the last season and kill that group of regulars.

I'm coming up to end of S1 and I'm really settling into the show. I thought the opening episode was a bit iffy, but after that, it really does improve. It's absolutely brilliant in places.

Totally agree about Jamie, he's a cracking lad

I think I know what is going to happen at the end of S1. I heard there is a disturbing scene near the end, it's been heavily foreshadowed and hinted at and I seriously don't hope that doesn't happen to the lad. Captain Randall is a real shite :dread: :dread: :dread: The guy that plays him is outstanding.

Castlevania series 4, probably an easy 8/10. I found the second half much better than the first half, not that the first half was by any means bad but the second half was really good.

Stick with it through season 2. The first part in France is a little slow but then its back to the highlands again for the second half. It really ramps up after that! (Its also probably the only TV show I've watched with a realistic depiction of sex between 2 lovers)

Sons of Sam

It was an enjoyable watch and the cult conspiracy is clearly a load of bollocks. The director obviously believes in it though as the narrative was very biased towards the conspiracy but as the show went on, it just made less and less sense. I could well imagine Barry Dodds and Ian Boldsworth having a good argument about it.

Outlander S1 - 8/10

The last two episodes of this were grim as hell. I was not prepared for that. Jamie is basically the Miles O'Brien of Scotland.

I really enjoyed the show overall. It has some great characters. Some scenes were a bit of a misstep with it (I'm thinking particularly about the belting scene), but generally, it's very solid and I would recommend it to anyone.

The Fall - 7.5/10

Not the easiest one to rate. It has a lot of positives, including the general standard of acting, the atmosphere and tension it produces. The main point where it falls down is what I would determine to be filler. For example, in S1, we spend a fair amount of time in Sally's neo-natal unit, all for the purpose of informing the audience that she is going to provide Spector with a false alibi one evening. We do not need to see the baby or the mother suffering, or the decision-making process that contributed to the baby being pulled from its life support. All we actually needed to see was a short couple of minutes, outlining the situation and explaining that Sally isn't coming home that night, hence the need for "the Benedetto girl" as she is almost always referred to ( ) babysitting.

Likewise in S3 we do not need to spend full episodes in the hospital, seeing how Rose and Spector are convalescing. It's time that could be spent developing other avenues, like the period Spector spent in the children's home which isn't greatly explored. Sally's existence and those of the kids are afterthoughts after the suicide attempt, why half-bake it? What's the point of the internal investigation Stella complies with into the shooting incident if we never understand the outcome?

It's a real shame because with a tighter scope this would be an absolute gem of a show, it has so much going for it but doesn't realise its full potential. I also don't think it makes the most of the 'howcatchem' format but that's a story for another day.

The Friends Reunion was great - cool stories, unseen footage and general banter. James Corden isn’t obtrusive and not in the whole show.

Lisa Kudrow and Jennifer Aniston seem to have dodged father time the best, sadly there doesn’t seem something quite right with Matthew Perry, he looked uncomfortable, hunched, saying very little and what he did say was slurred. He looked like he had a new set of front teeth and his face was adjusting to them and couldn’t speak properly.

7/10.

I don't know why they kept doing that, and also why she was seemingly able to escape any repercussions for what she did (or tried to do).

I don't think there was anything sinister about his appearance particularly, the only time I noticed him slurring his speech was at the end when he was choking back tears. He has aged probably the worst out of the six though.

But yeah I'd agree - I enjoyed the show and thought it was well made. However, the non-appearance of Paul Rudd(and Hank Azaria!) was pretty unforgiveable.

Started series 2 of Snowpiercer today and so far it doesn’t seem as good as the first despite its clear increase in budget (the outside shots do look lovely in comparison). So far the best thing about it is Sean Bean’s character, kind of takes you out of it when there’s someone who can survive in -70 temperatures without issue.

Anyone else made the mistake of watching Friends Reunion? We’re an hr behind live showing but it’s awful. Just reminiscing, no new episode (yet) which we thought it was going to be? (Our fault I guess for not checking what it was about beforehand)

Can’t get past Matthew Perry’s teeth / lips either! WTF?

Nope, they made it pretty strawberry floating clear that they were doing a retrospective look at the show and not a new episode.

Like I said a few posts up, I enjoyed it for what it was. It was obviously a self-congratulatory wankfest but I didn't think Corden was too obnoxious and there were some nice bits like the table reads and some of the outtakes. There were definitely a few major faces missing which is a lot of rubbish, but meh, it was what it was.

Watched the Friends reunion last night and it was alright. A bit too staged in places which made it felt artificial, but some interesting tidbits. I thought it was a bit of a shame that Matthew Perry was sidelined as much as he was. I get that they were going for warm and fuzzy memory lane stuff rather than hard hitting insight and so him piping in with 'By the way I was struggling with crippling mental health problems and drug abuse' might not have fit the tone, but it did mean that the atmosphere felt insincere and that his struggles were unfairly downplayed.

Felt like an awkward Christmas dinner where everyone wants to talk about their favourite toys and that one uncle keeps trying to change the subject to how he was raped in prison and everyone else at the table just keeps trying to steer the conversation back to Hollyoaks.

Castlevania S3

That was truly excellent and a massive step up from S2. Had a similar feel to GoT, with all these well established characters following their own story arcs across different parts of the world. I don't think I'll wait this time before watching S4.

The Deuce (Season 1) - 8/10
An engrossing look at 1970s New York's seedy underbelly and the rise of pornography. While they get most things right in this, I don't understand why they felt the need to have Franco play his own twin brother. He's fine as the first, but annoying as hell as the second. Really takes me out of it every time the second bro is on.

Fauda (Season 1) - 5/10
Sort of, a lesser quality, fast paced, Israeli 24 that is similarly ridiculous. Disappointing, especially after enjoying Tehran (by the same team) on AppleTV.

There's a bit in the Friends Reunion trailer where Matthew Perry is trying to hold back the tears. What was that bit about then? He seems like a decent bloke, I hope he is okay.

I'm watching Orphan Black (just finished series 2). The humour is good and I enjoy the performances of the main actress. The story is a bit meh and all over the place though.
