Mare of easttown 7/10

Really enjoyed that, kind of like true detective mixed with Fargo.

Dunno if it counts as a film or TV but watched Bo Burnham's Inside.

Don't think I'd call it a 'Comedy' Special like Netflix do, or at least I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for a comedy to watch. It's as funny as it is depressing and reminded me of how it feels watching Joker, watching the guy just spiralling mentally and is hard to tell just how much of it's an act.

The guy is super talented though, to write, perform, direct, do lighting, cameras, edit and everything all on his own in one room. Makes me feel very inadequate.

Finished Snowpiercer series 2, definitely improved a lot in the second half. Sean Bean absolutely kills it as Wilford.

I don’t think they’ll pull a GoT and kill a main character off screen in Melanie.

Outlander S2 - 6/10

I have mixed feelings about this one, because most of it felt like filler, but damn, that finale was great. Possibly the best episode of the show.

About 2/3rds through Invincible and thoroughly enjoying it so far.

The ending of the first episode really took me by surprise too.

Just finished watching the last episode, that was some epic fight sequence.

One of the best things I've watched in ages.

A rare 10/10 for me.

Time on BBC1 - 3-parter about Sean Bean being a prisoner and Stephen Graham being a prison guard. Really well acted and very hard-hitting, really shows how terrifying prison must be :dread:

I’ll be watching that after watching Inside No 9, thought it looked very promising from the trailers.

I saw the first episode of that too, it was surprisingly decent.

The trouble with Sean Bean though, is that there is a pretty high chance that his character is gonna get killed at some point.

Fargo Series 4 7.5/10- Whilst I still enjoyed it, I think this was a drop off from previous series. As a whole it wasn't a particularly interesting story, and didn't really like the nurse character and everything felt slightly under developed.

My favourite bit was

The Ben Whishaw/ Satchel subplot, I just found those 2 characters and the dynamics (particularly in episode 9), very interesting, would have liked to spend some more time with them.

Mare of Easttown - 8/10
Great performances and a smart central mystery, with well thought out twists. Though, most of the characters were pretty dour and it was all a bit depressing really. Took me a while to realise Mare's daughter was the wee girl outta The Nice Guys!

Worse than 3? I thought it was pretty bad, never did finish it.

Yeah, I drifted away from 3 as well. Was hoping 4 would be an improvement.

I don't nt really remember 2 or 3, except liking them. I remember Series 1 was basically the movie plot. But don't remember much about the other 2 besides the actors.

I would say it's quite different. It's set before the other 3 seasons in a different location. Could basically be a different TV series.

Wayne (Amazon prime) 8/10

Randomly stumbled upon this and really enjoyed it. It's kind of like Napoleon Dynamite mixed with a violent revenge story.

Mare of Easttown - 9/10

Really enjoyed this, great acting and had that glossy US drama look to it*. Like dmin said a few posts previously, it's a bit of a depressing and dour setting but they really nailed the small-town incestuous nature of things. Kate Winslet's accent was pretty passable as well. Was really surprised to discover about 5 episodes in that Mare's live-in mother wasn't Kim Cattrall in old lady makeup :slol: :fp:

*question for the floor - perhaps a silly question, but why do American TV shows look different to UK ones? Compare something like ER with Casualty and there's something about the UK show that makes it look much... flatter and less "showy". Is it just that they colour grade all of their shows differently or use special lighting or something? I use ER as the classic example, but this seems to apply to every single US show I watch when compared to what we produce in the UK. The Sopranos looks far more cinematic than Line of Duty, which often just looks really cheap even though it's clearly had a lot of money spent on it. I'm probably not explaining myself very well but hopefully someone out there knows that I'm on about.

I imagine its a combination of different lighting techniques, camera angles used and a lot of post production effects.

It’s mainly because the US uses a different framerate to the UK and Europe.
