We can at least agree that Teddy is the best though, right?

I just finished series 5 of The Expanse.

Bloody amazing yet again and the set-up for series 6 is fantastic.
Top tier Sci-Fi.

Sweet Home 7/10

I mostly enjoyed it. There were a few confusing scenes where a lot seemed to be happening and I had to re-watch a few times. Some of the characters seemed to make dubious decisions which were really dumb and a lazy way of killing them off. But overall, an enjoyable series.

Next up is Alice in Borderland.

Linda Belcher is incredible, you people are out of your damn minds.

Also the awful "meh weeeyf" Borat impression from Bob's office job nightmare has left more of an impression on me than it perhaps should have.

I'd never seen any of this before but knew it was highly rated. It's fantastic, from a start where I was wondering if the characters were just going to be annoying, it builds up into an epic adventure.

My only criticism (and I get why, it's a Nickelodeon kids show after all) is it's a bit too much like the A-Team at times. A building or vehicle will explode in a spectacular way but the camera will always cut back to show everyone got out safely. A kids show can't show too much death of course, but it needed more jeopardy, I never felt anyone was at risk of dying.

That's a small criticism though, it's a fantastic show.

Now, do I watch the movie which I've never heard anything good about.....

There's a sequel show as well, set about 100 years in the future you should check out. I recently rewatched both and I don't think Legend of Korea is as good, but I still enjoyed seeing more of the world.

Yeah I saw there was a sequel series. It doesn't seem to be on Netflix though so it'll have to wait.

The Legend of Korra - 8/10

Nowhere near as good as Airbender but still decent.

Tenzin was a boring strawberry floater, but more than made up for by the hilarious Meelo.

The Expanse, season 5 - 6.5/10
Wasn't a big fan of the Amos / Naomi storylines, moreso due to the fact it felt they took up 75% of the runtime and were dragged across the entire season. While this has been my least favourite season, the ending promises much for the next.

Spiral, season 8 - 8/10
A fitting finale to the final season of Spiral  This French crime drama has been consistently great throughout; you should check it out if you haven't already. All the seasons are on iplayer.

Fringe 8/10

First 3 seasons are great. The 4th and 5th are still enjoyable, and have some cracking episodes, but the overarching story is less compelling as a whole.Resetting people's histories / jumping forward in time just makes it feel more like a spin off than a continuation at times, and made me less invested. Also the whole thing about William Bell wanting to make his own universe was stupid. Would have been much better if they were trying to get Olivia ready to be a weapon against the observer invasion or sometime more connected in some way. Also I have a vague feeling there was loads of plot holes / incomplete story lines over the seasons, but it's probably best if I just don't think about it.

Edit

Also the observers powers seem to be really inconsistent, which again I just tried not to think about.

I loved that show, but never got to see the last 2 seasons.

I think I quite enjoyed the more inventive early monster of the week ones but it got too bogged down in bloated boring mytharc nonsense too quickly that I had zero interest in.

Shame, as the cast and chemistry was good, but I've got very little patience for sixth-form level wanking about conspiracy theories and multiverses.

Tried watching the Elisa Lam documentary for a bit, but had to turn it off in a bit of a rage for being really quite gooseberry fool.

I know the Elisa Lam story pretty well, and episode one is a bit of a tease in that in that it makes you think you're going to get wider sociopolitical context that makes her very sad story less of a 'supernatural mysterious death' over just the very sad case of a girl with serious mental issues being caught in a place and context with little to no recognition of mental health issues falling victim to the worst of it.

But it keeps not having a focus or a point to make. It explores the history of the hotel without explaining it's relevant to the case. It explores the Facebook Detectives without explaining why they're relevant. It does a bit of digging in the 'but teh CCVT doesn't do the matching' but without positing a point. It's just lots of information without any real link to the case. You could search for 'Elisa Lam' in Youtube and find a ten minute video with about as much insight into the actual case as this show does by episode 3.

I had to turn it off at the end of episode 3 when it gave actual airtime to the idea that because there's a test for Tuberculosis called the LAM-ELISA test, which is HOLY gooseberry fool Elisa Lam but strawberry floating BACKWARDS U GUIZ that meant that Elisa Lam was a Typhoid Mary for TB to wipeout the homeless people of skid row LA.

We all do. She was playing a game known as elevator to another world. Probably got possessed when she answered the woman on the fifth floor.

Over the last few months my girlfriend and I watched all 10 seasons of Bob's Burgers on Prime. She hadn't seen it before, but I'd seen it all except the last half of season 10. It's great it works perfectly as an ensemble piece. My favourite is probably Louise.

I still get a real thrill from hearing Ian properly rip into Barry over the Eliza Lam story. Might need to start another listen of the Parapod now.
