Hunters S1

Yea, I'm just about to finish this and it's gotten better as the season progressed. It was a bit all over the place tonally at the start in a way that really didn't sit right given the subject matter. I don't think juxtaposing comic-book style introductory splashes for the character with very graphic and down-to-earth depictions of the horrors of Auschwitz really gelled right, but it seems to have picked a more level ground as the season progressed. It also seems to be going out of its way to side line all the most interesting plot threads in favour of lots of attention being paid to less interesting aspects of character stories. Like, I get that the characters need development but I feel like a lot could have been held back for season 2 in order to better establish the world and the antagonists (who remain pretty vague) upfront.

I was persuaded to give this another try after being disappointed by series 2. I'm half way through and not really feeling it. If I wasn't watching it with someone else I probably wouldn't bother. I mean, it's fine and all and not bad (hence a 6 rather than a lower score) but I can't seem to get into it.

Series 3 does end really strongly. I'd recommend trying to see it through if you can.

I'll see it through. My friend is going through a rough time at the moment and she seems to be enjoying the series so I told her I'd go over later in the week to watch the rest of it with her.

I thought series 1 was great but series 2 and what I've seen of series 3 just don't seem to be landing with me..

The Boys Season 1

Absolutely crackers & quite a bit different from your usual superhero stuff we have rammed down our throats by Marvel & DC.

Nora From Queens (Seasons 1 & 2) - 7/10
A pretty funny, but patchy comedy, starring Awkwafina. The granny, Lori Tan Chinn, is the real star, everytime she's on screen she raises a chuckle. Both seasons are on BBC IPlayer.

We Own This City (limited series) - 7/10
David Simon's newest show, based on real events, about corruption in the Baltimore PD. It feels like a companion piece to The Wire, which is obviously good, but, to be honest, I was slightly disappointed. It jumps around a hell of a lot, so it's hard to keep track of things and it gets pretty repetitive recounting similar events. It could have done with a couple of episodes less. However, the amount of corruption never ceases to astound; a failed system, rotten to the core.

Into The Night Series 1.

A Belgian series about the sun becoming deadly and a group of survivors must stay on a plane and flee into the night.
Despite the rather outlandish premise it's actualy rather good and at only 6 45 minute episodes doesn't try and string things out and I'm looking forward to starting series 2.

If you have Netflix and are looking for something a little different give it a try and it may surprise you.

8.5/10.

Mindhunter S1. Watched largely off the recommendations from here. Very good. 10/10.

Also off here knowing that there isnt going to be a S3 - do the little snippets/hints of another serial killer that they tease throughout S1, continue or get resolved in S2?

No, the snippets continue in season two but there is no resolution.

If you are interested in reading up on it, the snippets are depictions of the BTK killer.

Tokyo Vice Season 1

A must-watch for fans of Yakuza. Best crime show I've seen in a long time and felt very lived-in. Didn't feel like a typical American view of Tokyo and how 'quirky' it can be. Well recommended.

Oh sweet, it's based on the book which I really liked. Will check it out.

After he got away with it for decades, it's wild how he finally got caught.

Wasn't it something like he sent in a floppy disk to the police and they identified him from the metadata? After he had asked them for reassurance that they wouldn't be able to trace him from any data on it. Seems so stupid considering he'd obviously been adept at covering his tracks up to that point.

Yeah. It was the early days of computers.

-You definitely can't trace this right?
-Noooooo.

Just shows you that there's plenty of bastards out there with tall reputations that are also strawberry floating idiots.

Rader was actually pretty sloppy and could've been caught more than once, but he got lucky.

Bosch Seasons 1-3- 9/10

I love it. Noirey detective show set in LA with a load of cast from The Wire. Far and away my favourite thing I've watched in 2022 and halfway through season 4, the quality hasn't gone.

Also I like saying Bosch.

Obi-Wan. Definitely the most enjoyable Star Wars since The Last Jedi. Really very good indeed.

8/10

I need to get caught up with Bosch, think I had just finished Season 4. It's a good solid detective show. Did you see theres a spinoff / continuation on IMDB? Think it's called Bosch Legacy.

Bosch is pretty consistently decent throughout, and Legacy is very good too.
