So bad.

What this highlights is how overrated Martin is as an author.

As far as we know Martin didn’t write any of those plots, the TV series went far ahead of the books a long time ago.

I see. I only read the first three books and stopped because I found them rather tedious. I just assumed the show followed the books, albeit with a lot of the filler cut out.

I actually really enjoyed the books and have found that the series have suffered since they moved away from his writing. All the political manoeuvring and machination has been left behind in favour of spectacle and special effects.

There were two ways the show could have gone after moving on from Martin's books: favour a more intricate, Sopranos-like drama or become Lord of the Rings. It emphatically chose the latter and I've found this has removed everything that made the series good in the first place (and man were the first three seasons good).

A cliched response from me perhaps, but each to their own. I prefer the works of Gemmell and Goodkind.

Oh strawberry float me. Just finished episode 4 (the one where the dragon attacks the Lannisters) and I got so angry at the cheques that sequence was unable to cash I swore at the tele. So many pointless fake outs and feints.

I've just started rewatch GoT, with my intention to catch up just in time for the finale which means I need to average just less than 3 episodes a day (weekends will help, thankfully). Reading Taf's journey is equal parts entertainment and dread.

I've picked up where we left off, sometime around the beginning of season 6, in an attempt to catch up before the final episode airs.

It's just such a drag. I am genuinely so bored while watching it, I doubt I'll ever get through to the end.

I thought season 6 had its ups and downs. The Battle of the Bastards was a remarkable spectacle, and finally seeing Ramsey get his was fun. The finale on the other hand was the laziest kind of 'we don't know how to resolve these conflicts, let's blow everything up.' writing.

Season 7 is, so far, terrible. Apparently, the answer everyone was looking for during the first few seasons was just...more. Want the seven kingdoms? Just kill more houses! Want control of the seas? Just conjure up 1000 ships in a few weeks! Why didn't Theon's dad think of that? The reason the Lannisters were so indebted to the Tyrells in the earlier seasons was because the Lannisters were broke, literally in debt to a ruthlessly powerful mercenary bank and dealing with multiple internal struggles. Season 7 rolls around? Nah, just capture the Tyrell's castle, that'll do it! When House Bolton fell in BotB it felt huge because this was the first major house since the Starks to go under. Now it seems a new house is disappearing every week.

The show it's reminding me of most at the moment is Lost. Fantastic opening few seasons; terribly rushed, improvised feeling latter seasons as the writers scramble to resolve conflicts they don't know how to resolve.

EDIT: Another episode down. They managed to make a scene of dragons fighting the undead boring and unremarkable.

This is really poor.

Black Summer.

A bumbling start but it definitely picked up and a few missteps aside it was quite enjoyable.

Love Death and Robots: Impossible to score/10

Like any anthology sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't. A few eps are mindblowingly gorgeous yet say absolutely nothing, several try and say something but in a poorly written, poorly executed manner, and one is just shockingly terrible.

My own ranking was probably:

Zima Blue
Good Hunting
Suits
When the Yogurt took over
Sonnie's Edge
Beyond the Aquila Rift
The Witness
Lucky 13
Fish Night
Shapeshifters
Helping Hand
The Secret War
Ice Age
Three Robots
Blindspot
Sucker of Souls
The Dump
Alternate Histories

Although even then, some of those are higher simply because they looked amazing (The Witness, Sonnie's Edge)

It's also super male gazey and its depiction of women is woeful. Every woman is either a victim looking for revenge, a quote unquote badass female or a sex object. Also also, none of the 18 shorts were directed by women which is strawberry floating shameful.

Some of it is heartstoppingly beautiful, some of it is nonsense. I saw it referred to as ArtStation the movie, and that's essentially what it is.

None of the episodes are connected, and each is about 10-15 minutes long. Easy to throw one in in-between...whatever else you have on.

Watched Three Robots and Sonnie's Edge. Visually stunning but both quite forgettable, (the dialogue in Sonnie's Edge is particularly bad). Might watch the rest as and when.

Yeah, they're very hit and miss.

My picks would be Zima Blue and Good Hunting, and I had a soft spot for Suits too. Blindspot and Alternate Histories are comfortably the worst.

Community Season 1 and 2. I really like them. I like how Alison Brie seems to get recognised as a big talent and gets drawn to a higher billing/role as the seasons progress. The first seaso and a half seem pretty normal in terms of the college theme storylines, but then they seem to lose ideas and just put together more zany escapades for the group to find themselves in - seems to jump the shark pretty early. S1 and half of S2 = 9/10 then on about a 7.

Theres another 4 seasons for me to watch on all 4 streaming for free, does it continue to mainly consist of far fetched one off episodes?

Mostly yes - comes back around at the end.

Mostly yes - comes back around at the end.

Community jumping the shark is one of the saddest moments in modern comedy TV for me, it was such a brilliant show when it maintained a grip on reality, or went for a bizarre, but brief, detour that was beautifully juxtaposed against that normality.

I still think that for the most part everything after S2 is very enjoyable, it only dances with being truly "bad" a couple of times but also manages some really high points again if you stick with it.

S6 is very strong in my opinion but many think it had lost too many of the original cast by that point.

Fleabag season 2 - Season 1 was very, very good but season 2 is incredible. It's so beautifully written and directed, every conversation is full of such nuance. It's not something I will ever love like The Detectorists mostly because I can't relate completely to the characters but I can imagine there is a swathe of people who will hold this up as the greatest thing ever made. And I can understand why, if it completely chimes with you then it must be revelatory. Every character has such depth, every line is tuned to absolute perfection. I'd put Waller-Bridge up there with the likes of Victoria Wood for her ability to write such brilliant characters. I did wonder why she'd be given the Bond gig having not seen her work previously, now I can understand and I probably need to move on to Killing Eve next.

Now I'm a few eps in, I see why I forgot it.

It's a huge step down from season 4, likely due to it moving away from the books and fitting it's own path. I'm just finding large swaths of it to be super dull.

I'm a few episodes into season 5 now and this is the truth. Bit of a slog now. Must keep going though, need to watch the finale before it's spoiled for me.
