Finished this a few weeks ago, really enjoyed it. Could have done without the Loki Iceland subplot- thought that a bit tedious and dull.

The crux of Twin Peaks has always been Laura Palmer, and the trauma resulting from her abuse. A lot of the original series, and even Fire Walk With Me, could be read as an allegory, that all of the supernatural stuff is simply a narrative device to mask the terrible reality of Laura's situation. Although I've been loving season 3, I feel that it left that behind somewhat to concentrate on an exploration of the very literal duelling worlds of the fiction's universe.

Episode 17 regained some of that emotional weight. Simply seeing Sheryl Lee's amazing performance in FWWM hit hard, but Cooper's "We're going home" had me welling up something proper.

Then of course, because it's Lynch, something goes wrong... which cues up the finale.

Taking a break for a few hours then we're going to get the whole thing over with.
EDIT: Also, the final showdown with BOB was just...terrifyingly brilliant.

After the rather more conventional wrapping up performed by Episode 17, of course Lynch couldn't let that stand. Cue an incredibly frustrating episode that seemed to revel in its lack of coherence and its long, drawn-out shots of nothingness.

I missed a lot of details from this series. I missed the fact that Sarah Palmer was inhabited by JUDY all along. I missed that there was some serious timeline shenanigans going on from the very start... but I still enjoyed the ride. The final episode was perhaps one of the more simplistic of the whole series, largely consisting of driving sequences, but I found it annoying and nonsensical. Cooper finding a misplaced Laura Palmer, misplaced by his own hand while trying to save her, was all well and good. Even Cooper possibly returning to the wrong time whilst trying to re-united Laura and Sarah Palmer... fine. But the bizarre way the entire series ended, with a scream and a blackout, was unsatisfying and cheap.

After having read what actually happen, in a summary of Mark Frost's book, there's some closure but the series as written, for me, ended on a huge disappointment.

Oh well...

Currently up to the end of S3 and looking forward to watching S4, ratings so far:

S1: 8.5/10
S2: 7.5/10
S3: 9/10

Anyone with even a passing interest in Sci-Fi should watch this as it's strawberry floating amazing with some truly great characters and an emotionally powerful story about trying to stop the end of the world via time travel. Why the Sci-Fi channel didn't market the pants of this I have no idea as (I don't say this lightly) it really is up there with Star Trek: TNG and Battlestar Gallactica in quality. Easy 10/10 and I say again if you've never considered it or not heard of it please give it a chance (Season 1-3 are on Netflix) as you honestly won't regret it.

It's one of my favourite shows. The writing is top notch.

Series 4 is excellent. You're going to love it if you liked 3.
