I thought this was supposed to be good, but I have a horrible suspicion that it was something Frank liked. :dread: Titus is amusing and stops it getting 1/10, but the rest of it is pretty dreadful. Maybe it gets better in the later seasons, but I can’t say I am interested enough to find out.

It is.

And that explains why it’s so gooseberry fool.

I think quite a few people liked it on here. I gave it a chance of maybe... 3 episodes at the most and it was absolute garbage. Painful even.

I tried The Good Place too on the recommendation of people here too. Not as bad as Kimmy, but I gave up on it after 4 eps. It has a particular style of cutesy humour I find off putting. Even Ted couldn't save it for me.

Shame, as The Good Place is great.

White Gold Season 2: 7/10- The two inbetweeners actors basically play their characters from the inbetweeners (or Simon Thomas's character in anything), but I enjoyed the premise. It's not really laugh out loud funny that often, but it's still got a bit of humour to it.

Bodyguard - 8/10

I didn't see this when it was first on TV, and never read any of the spoilers either which meant certain incidents came as a major shock, great stuff.

Solid but ultimately slightly disappointing super hero action. I've never read the comics so have no idea how authentic this is to the original source material, but it's a fun enough series that I would recommend to fans of the genre.

I'd say it drags a little and could have done with some tightening up, either in cutting the episodes to 45 mins or maybe dropping from 10 to 8 or 9 episodes in total. They establish some interesting characters and relationships but don't necessarily take that much advantage of these in the current run which is a shame, but bodes well for future development I guess. The ending is a bit of a let down but does set things up well for a second series.

This all sounds like I think it's a bit gooseberry fool but just to be clear I really enjoyed it for the most part!

I'd go so far as to give it an 8 I think, but you're absolutely right about the pacing. It's criminally slow in parts, with large amounts of plot occurring simply because one character didn't reveal something to the others despite them having every reason to.

To be fair its character work is strong enough that when someone (eg Number Five) fails to reveal crucial info you could, if you're being generous, see it as a character trait rather than the writers artificially extending the narrative tension. But its still egregious at some points.

Apart from that though it's great. As mentioned the characters are all excellent (except perhaps Allison who isn't really given all that much to do), the world building unique enough to excuse the rather dull 'avert the apocalypse' greater plot, and the whole thing looks and sounds brilliant. The use of licenced music is especially great.

Really can't wait for season 2.

(Interesting fact: the creator of the comic series? Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance!)

I thought Whitney was decent but Costner gave a poor performance.

I’ve never seen that movie

Van Helsing S3

I don't know why I forced my way through this because whilst the premise is sound the direction and acting continues to be awful, particularly from the lead role. For the writing itself in an attempt to give viewers a strong female lead they've instead ended up with an annoying dullard who always wades in with her size tens and makes a hash of everything. To make matters worse the actress can't, well, act and produces some of the most hilarious "I'm a mean badass" grimaces ever.

The Umbrella Academy 9/10- I really enjoyed this. Do agree that it's slightly slow paced, but I also thought the build up was slightly better than the finale. Everyone needs to watch this to make sure Netflix green light a second season.

Yeah it probably is worth an 8 on reflection. It was a great watch for the most part, just needed a bit more care taken over the pacing and structure and I still feel they took advantage of some of the interesting character work and relationships as well as they could - but again that gives them plenty to work with for season 2.

Agree on the frustrations around how much of the plot is simply a result of characters not talking to each other, this caused a few grumbles from me as well.

Really hoping they build on this for a fantastic season 2, there is a lot to like so I'm certainly looking forward to it.

The Ted Bundy Tapes

Fascinating, terrifying, bewildering, upsetting.

My own conclusion is that even with the nature of Ted's terrible crimes I still do not, or ever will support the death penalty.

I keep meaning to watch that but think better of it and end up watching something lighthearted.

After Life

I really quite liked this. I can't really related to the main characters position but it did seem a very heartfelt representation of grief. It's not especially funny, even in a dark sense though it does have one scene in episode 5 that had me literally crying. Reminded me a lot of Detectorists, maybe the cinematography (sunny, english village setting). Not overly trite though the ending does tip over into maybe being a little too saccharine sweet.

Derek - Series 1, I didn’t think I would like it at first but I really got into it and the last episode had me crying like a baby, I’m watching the second series now, 7/10

I heard Amazon had picked up the series after it was cancelled, but I only realised last week that they had Season 3 up. If you loved the first 2 seasons then you should love this one, more of the Earth/Mars/Belter politics with added protomolecule madness.

About halfway through this and I've got to agree, it's strawberry floating fantastic, I'd say better than the previous 2 series and I loved those. Plus, it taught me the correct pronunciation for Nguyen which in my mind is a nguyen-nguyen situation.
