It's easy to forget how much goes into the making of a TV show. The scripts and direction obviously, the acting too. But then there's the cinematography, the production, the special effects, the location work, the casting, the editing, the grading, the music, the foley, the focus pulling, the sound design, the props... Every show from Game of Thrones to Coronation Street is the result of all these different aspects reacting to one another, bouncing off in ways most often even the creators could not possibly have anticipated. The chances of any show, no matter how well planned or shot or produced, being perfect is...tiny. Miniscule.

Chernobyl is perfect.

I cannot think of a single criticism. Every single aspect was just...perfect. This is a show that ran half as long as most premium shows these days and left twice the impact.

A masterpiece.

Not perfect, English speaking. 2/10.

The producers have said they tried a few test runs with the actors doing Russian accents but they said it sounded faintly comedic and in the US the English accent adds a certain level of seriousness.
I actually think having the actors just use their own natural voice was a wise choice as we all know this is set in Russia and I think everyone involved had a pretty sombre and serious tone which I felt was perfect.

I don't think getting them to try Russian accents would have added anything.

I was joking. I haven't seen it

When They See Us

Only one episode in but I am very familiar with the case this series is based on. If it's anything close to what actually happened the police involved with interviewing and manipulating those kids need firing into the sun, absolutely horrifying.

Good Omens - Imagine there was a book that you'd read countless times. And in your head, you could picture every character and their mannerisms. And then they announced there was going to be a series made of it. And your heart dropped just a little because you know that they'll never get it just right. That there will always be something that the people who are making the show see in a different way to you. And then you see the show. And all your fears fall away because they've made the show exactly the way you always hoped it would be made where every single casting is just completely on point. But it's also made with love because the people who made it aren't just doing it because they paid loads of money to secure the rights. It's being made because they can and they want to tell that story for every single person who loves the book. And they haven't added anything or tried to continue the book over several series. Because it's a short book, just about perfect for 6 or so episodes. Basically, I'm giving it all of that/10.

Only criticism, where were the other four bikers of the apocalypse?

Finished Chernobyl last night - a flawless masterpiece. I think it's in my top 3 TV shows ever.

Every one else in this thread has already described why it's so good much better than I could, but I just wanted to add that it does something I don't think I've seen been done so well before - its Lovecraftian treatment of the reactor and its deadly radiation. It's like the reactor explosion unlocked a door that let the Old Gods out. It's like this cosmic horror that you can't see. The scene with the dead deer and the red trees starting to sway was just so unsettling. Insanely good TV.

edit: also it had Roose Bolton in it, so that's a win before you even get started.

Yup. It's basically a horror show.

I’ve only got one episode of Chernobyl left to go and unless that last episode is awful, I agree that it is an absolute masterpiece.

Although the same can’t be said for NowTV. I can stream Netflix, Amazon, iPlayer and YouTube with no problems. Game of Thrones and Last Week Tonight have always been fine. But Chernobyl keeps buffering. Those strawberry floating spinning coloured balls were making me scream with anger and frustration. :x

Finished Chernobyl yesterday, absolutely brilliant show. Straight into top 5 shows for me. Wish it had been longer.

Really Highlights how awful the last season of Game of Thrones has been.

Also started 'The handsmaids Tale' season 3 last night, strong start, much bleak, many sadness.

I thought the last episode was probably the best.

Hey, Vermi, bad news.

We need to redo the top 100 TV shows eliminator so we can see where Chernobyl finishes.

Chernobyl - 2/10

A bit far fetched for me, it was blatantly written by green mentalists as propaganda against the nuclear industry.

And were we supposed to believe that it was set in a real place? Why not set it somewhere people have heard of like Moscow, New York, Oldbury or London?

I am giving it 2 points for being brave enough to point out the horrors of leftist states. The BBC would never commission fiction set in their beloved USSR!!

Killing Eve Season Two.

It’s a great series but I’m much preferred the first season to be honest.

Villanelle. :datass: every time she’s on the screen and it’s so captivate to watch her.

Designated Survivor season 3 - 5/10

Giving this a 5 is probably generous but there’s something likeable about it even though it is crap.

Killing Eve 2

Enjoyed seeing where the characters went. Still a great style but it struggles to retain the freshness of the first series, for obvious reasons. Overall entertaining and I'll be in for series 3.
