I don't have a smart TV and so i'd have to watch it on the computer, which means the picture quality is vastly inferior (which, for a series like The Planets, is a big deal).

A NowTV/Fire stick would be cheaper than buying blu-rays and would give you access to the wonders of streaming. Or use a games console?

There's also the fact that i prefer physical media, because i'm a stubborn old git who dislikes change.

Look at this sheep.

I hear the Betamax version is available already in Chechnya. Just wait for that.

The only surprise there is that you stopped using it in 2005.

Years and Years

Good premise, falls apart in the last few episodes. It has succeeded in making a little depressed though.

Black Mirror S5 - 6/10.
Dark S2 - 9/10 - love this show and think the dub is quite good, that cliffhanger man! Give me more.
Stranger Things 8/10.

Since the 4th series is supposed to be coming some time this year, over the past week or so I decided to finally get through series 3 of Mr Robot and I'm still finding it to be really good. Series 2 seemed to be especially wild (not in a bad way) whereas this one seemed a bit more grounded like the first with the story moving on a bit. 9+/10 I guess

The Orville - 8/10

Seth Macfarlane's love letter to classic Star Trek, the stories are brilliantly weird, and the characters are really likeable.

100% agreed. After the entirely forgettable season 2 this was a huge relief, and is what I suspect the original season 2 was going to look like.* It's given up its more grounded apeing of King and Speilberg to go full 80's neon feverdream but strawberry float it's fun. The plot was good, the cast great and some scenes (the firework fight especially) were strawberry floating gorgeous.

Great stuff.

*The original plan was to do an IT and rejoin the kids several years after their experience with the Demagorgon.

Enough warm responses to Stranger Things have come in that confirms I need to return to it - I gave up during S2!

The Boys

Well that was pretty darn good - but it's very different from the source material (but then it has to be)

Most changes are pretty good and make the story work better (like those mentioned above) - and while it's still violent, gorey and sexy - it never feels as completely OTT as the comics. But one is just wierd though (episode 4 or 5 spoilers)

Sitwell being a woman? OK.

Sitwell being a woman Homelander simulates being breast feeding from AND wants to strawberry float? Wierd. Wierd. Wierd.

Still liked it and thought the characters were all well done/acted. Hughie gets adorkable just right, and Frenchie is...just...awwww

I'm not sure if we're meant to sympathise with the Deep or not. His arc was odd, and I'm not sure if it's meant to feel as redemption through change/growth, or redemption through suffering...either way it felt too kind to a rapist. The actor is doing is best though. And the dolphin scene had me in stitches

They're not really following the comic arcs obviously but the ending

Sitwell dead...and Becca alive and having Homelanders kid? That's such odd choice

When's series 2?

Season 2 is better than season 1 and has some really special episodes.
1 episode has some incredibly good Star Trek like music that really made me smile as it just showed how much impact the music style can have.

Is the Orville a comedy/parody or is it a decent sci-fi show? I always assumed it was the former.

The Orville has comedy in it but it's a serious Sci-Fi show that tackles some pretty hardcore issues like same sex relationships and slavery.
It's a seriously amazing show and if you can get it you should give it a try as if you liked TNG you'll love it.

It's a massively better Star Trek show than Discovery (I still like Discovery it's just that The Orville is more like TNG) and shows that Seth was a huge fan who had the money available to do what is in effect a fan show TNG with some jokes and I highly recommend it.

It's starts very comedy-ish (and Seth McFarlane/Frat boy comedy) but that slowly disappears over season 1, and is pretty much gone in season 2. There's still some light moments - but it's properly a sci-fi show first, and a much close sucessor to TNG (or Voyager) than Discovery.

In fact I could tell you more about Orville's crew in 2 episodes than most of Discovery's bridge crew after 2 seasons
