Years and Years

All started to feel a bit silly the longer it went on. Dodgy acting, dodgy scripting. I cried when the BBC got shut down .

I caught bits of that when it was on, and found the ending quite naive in its belief that all it would take to bring down a populist far-right government is a bit of social media exposure on concentration camps existing.

You didn't miss much and unfortunately the issue you describe is not exclusive to the denouement.

I'm not annoyed that I spent time watching it but I wouldn't be bothered about having missed it.

We just tried the first episode and yeah we couldn't finish it.

It's aggressively bad in a way I haven't seen in a while. The direction is bad, the acting is atrocious and the writing is just constant amateur hour. The characters aren't human more then they are plot devices with none of them acting in an even remotey logical or natural manner (one woman upon realising she's trapped on a desert island unable to remember her name immediately strips off and goes sunbathing) and they're all just pure arseholes. There's not a single thing to grab onto.

I read up on the rest of the plot and it's like something a child would think up.

Terrible. Not even in a fun way.

(Everyone is really strawberry floating fit though I'll give it that.)

Carnival Row 6/10 - You can tell it's had all the money thrown at it but building an entire fantasy world in just 8 hours of TV and attempting to compete with GoT for the breadth of the storylines is too much. Whether it would have been served by being based on an existing IP or not, I'm not sure but you can see there are probably reams and reams of backstory, side story and probably front story all written up somewhere and only briefly touched upon. It just doesn't seem to have time to breathe and I'm certain it would have been better if it had chopped 50% of it's storylines for the first series. And Orlando Bloom doing Ray Winstone is pretty poor.

That's a shame. Like I mentioned I've been following it's development for 10 years now and to see it go from amazing spec script to average show is pretty heartbreaking.

I've downloaded the first episode so I should really give it a watch.

Couple of episodes into Season One of The Good Doctor. Really good so far. Very interesting portrayal of ASD. Love the dynamics between the hospital staff. Steve is a heartbreakingly heroic younger brother. The surgery scenes are pretty gruesome but otherwise loving this show. Freddie Highmore is always a win.

9.5/10

Celebrity X Factor has just started. So far this looks like it could be the first good season of X Factor since One Direction's season way back in 2010. Seeing Martin Bashir (and especially the response he gets) makes me angry as he's literally the devil incarnate, the biggest piece of gooseberry fool imaginable, but the other contestants all seem great. Will be interesting to see how it fares going forward.

Bashir is indeed a massive banana split but I suspect he was actually being sincere about his brother.

I have Dystrophy myself and it truly is an awful, emotionally agonizing illness to live with.

My mum actually burst into tears watching that bit, so yeah, that was a bit gooseberry fool.

More disturbing however is that I find Jenny Ryan oddly attractive  :fp:

I have no doubt Bashir was being sincere about his brother but (a) I hate sob stories on competitions like this. "Make the person win because they have a better sob story" doesn't sound fair (2) he's a large part of the reason Michael Jackson died; his documentary being the catalyst for everything that followed.

Sorry to hear you have dystrophy. Can't even begin to imagine how tough and absolutely terrifying it must be to have a condition like that. You seem like such a friendly guy, so it's great you're able to have a friendly personality despite everything.

Yes, that must have made watching that part of the show very difficult for you and your mum.

Can't comment on Jenny Ryan's attractiveness cause I don't know (she certainly isn't ugly) but her singing voice is phenomenal. Best performance of the night!

I'm really upset with Kevin McHale's time on the show yesterday. He was Artie in Glee, so that's all I know him as, but I don't know, Kevin himself I'm getting sort of an arrogant vibe off him? Might just be my imagination though.

Arrow S7 -- 6/10

I get they were setting things up to make S8 the final season but that has to be the most bullshit season finale I've seen since BSG.

I don't watch Supergirl or Legends of Tomorrow so didn't bother watching the crossover episode (the previous two were basically a self contained miniseries) so was quite annoyed that this one directly related to the finale.

Would have been better just having Oliver die instead of the 'The universe needs me Felicity, bye' nonsense

Also, the lack of Thea and Nysa was a bit of a letdown, was hoping to see where their end of S6 storyline went.

The new episode of the X Factor 4/10.
They didn't put through the most talented person there, for no real reason.

What i saw of the new X Factor was absolute garbage.

That said, the main show lost popularity because they kept dicking around with the format.

Episode one of the new show was honestly really enjoyable. Showed a lot of promise.
Episode two showed that it's the same-old same-old. This chick sings a song but is crap but then Simon has the "brilliant" idea of getting her to sing another song, which just so happens to be amazing? That's "definitely" not staged. The jaded music elite are amazed at some trash song someone wrote themselves? Yeah right. The singer who got the greatest applause doesn't get put through, but someone who didn't even audition but who has a super sad story does get put through? That's 100% because of artistic credibility, not because of ratings...
Colour me disappointed.

Big Mouth Season 3. 9/10

The final episode sums it up perfectly. They all get ridiculous super powers, like Avatar-style water bending but with cum (a lot cooler than it sounds), or turning invisible whenever you fart. This show knows it's absurd, and runs with it making for some truly enjoyable television. What could have been a very awkward show about a group of animated thirteen-year-olds wanting to have sex is actually handled surprisingly well, with honest portrayals of what I'd assume it's like when people start having sex drives. I have friends who have had similar discussions and feelings as the characters in this show.
My favourite character is Jay. What started as an unrelatable sexaholic who spends all his nights having intercourse with his pillow evolved into a very well-crafted look at coming to terms with one's sexuality, and how different sexualities can be. He was for sure the stand-out character of this season.
Loses a point for how short the season is. Have to wait a whole year before finding out what happens next.

Peaky Blinders S3

Boring. strawberry floating Russians.

Peaky Blinders S4

Better. The last episode was kind of predictable, but I enjoyed it.
