I want to like The Planets but I just find Brian Cox's voice and the rhythm of his speech to be so intensely annoying that I can't get through it

And there it is. The worst opinion ever expressed on this forum.

And that includes the really special opinions that No1FFF and RichardUK expressed yesterday.

Can you not let No1FFF hold onto the crown until he's been to France for a cut please?

Watching The Last Kingdom, something I’ve been meaning to get round to for ages but just never have. Just onto season 3 and so far I’d say it’s good, not great.

That was an important speech, sir, and it needed to be made. Might I suggest, however, that the rest of this discourse is continued by those with brains larger than a grape?

OK, let's knock on the door and ask for Ronnie Real. This is a classic stalemate situation, you like Brian Cox's voice and I don't. Let's chalk this one down to experience and I'll be on my merry way, yeah?

We're right at the end of series 4 (review incoming!) It's a good show, but since Netflix have taken over it's become a lot less tame! Boobies and violence now. I really enjoy the show myself.

I thought series 1 was really good but the second seemed to be a bit hit or miss, nearing the end of series 3 and it has been fantastic though so hoping for more of the same from the 4th.

Once Parks shakes off its slow start with the first season, it really hits its stride and is consistent until the end.

Absolutely. As a six episode introduction to the cast and characters it's fine, but as soon as season 2 kicks off it's on another level. I was dreading Adam Scott and Rob Lowe coming into it because I don't really like them, but they were fantastic additions to the cast. Loved the whole thing really. And Ron Swanson.

Huh, I'll have to try Parks again. I tried a few episodes and ended up going to community instead and binged it until halfway through the last season where I gave up.

Maybe start from season 2 - the ramp up in quality is crazy. Community I struggled with the final season as well. It helped that I really love Keith David and it was still funny but it wasn’t the same show.

Interestingly, Ken Jeong and Joel McHale have been running a podcast where they chat gooseberry fool about Community and it’s been really good.

So in the last 2 weeks I've watched all of Parks, just finished the finale a few moments ago.

That was incredible.

I was really not looking forward to it ending as I was enjoying it so much, but that finale was near on perfect.

strawberry float, I'm not going to find anything that good for a long time aren't I.

I think I'm going to have to rewatch Parks.

It's on Prime I think

Glad you enjoyed it TNAG! I absolutely loved it as well, just a really warm and friendly show all the way through. I went straight from that to Community, which was also amazing but in a different way. Everything I’ve watched since has just felt lacking in comparison. :(

It’s on Sky Comedy if you’ve got access to Sky, mate.

The Last Kingdom - S4.

Very good. I think the show perhaps needs winding up in the next season or two, but for now this remains very engaging thanks to strong and interesting characters. Difficult to see where the next threat is coming from, mind.

8/10

Deadwood - 7/10

Really not sure what to make of it - nothing ever really seems to happen, and if it does it’s at a glacial pace. The writing gets praised but - if it’s authentic - the ramblings get a little hard to follow. And the quick tempered sheriff is just a bit of a one note joke, every time he got ridiculously angry I’d just laugh at how stupid it was.
McShane is obviously the highlight which bumps the score up by at least 2/3 points. Hoping the movie ties up the dozen or so loose threads but I can’t see it.
