I know. It's also too early in history for Cnut the Great. I just wanted to leave a comment that looked like "banana split".

Mrs Wilson
Ruth Wilson stars as her own grandmother in a drama about Ser Friendzone making up for lost time. It's very good as you'd expect from a BBC period drama. Not thrill a minute stuff but fascinating to think that somehow this happened.

Eminent Monsters
Documentary looking into the development of modern mental torture. Deals with the methods and various infamous examples as well as the fallout to the victims of the techniques. Frankly a must watch if only to be reminded how complicit we are in it.

Rillington Place
A bloody brilliant drama about the serial killer John Reginald Christie. Its a tense and methodical piece with a hell of an atmosphere. Fantastic lighting! Superb performances all round but Tim Roth is extra special as the man himself. Chilling. Also contains Jodie Comers legs.

I’ve been watching The Americans since getting access to Prime.

Or as it’s otherwise known, Bad Parenting Tips for Softcore Porn Enthusiasts.

I’m up to season 5 and it’s enjoyable enough but I think I expected a bit more than throwaway spy fiction. I mean it seems to try to do some things realistically but then displays very little patience for a developing story line and the characters motivations and actions zigzag all over the place like they’re written from scratch each week. The relationship with the daughter for example is just all over the place.

I think I abandoned it somewhere around season 4. I realised I was only watching it out of habit rather because I wanted to.

Just got episode 10 to watch.
Love seeing what makes great athletes and teams tick.

So many close games too, shows how small margins are

Onto the last episode now of The Last Kingdom, enjoyed watching it on the whole, think after a couple more seasons (or one at least?) the idea of the next enemy being another Dane who Uhtred will sometimes align with before going back to a Saxon might have grown a little tiring, I get he’s meant to be neither one nor the other and following the people rather than their beliefs. Not sure how hugely the books differ from the TV adaptation or if they’ve even finished being written.

The Last Dance - 9.5/10

I have hardly any interest in basketball but I do love a good documentary. And this is an amazing documentary.

Jordan is such a weird guy, Rodman is far more normal.

The Last Dance - 8/10

Sort of peters out towards the end as the pre '98 stuff is way more interesting than the more detailed final season they have the in depth footage for. Really compelling documentary that reminds me of the brief basketball boom we saw over here in the late 90s with the draw of Space Jam and the Bulls dynasty. It's only in the last four or five years that I've found a renewed interest in basketball, and this plugs a lot of gaps of its growth and history during the 80s and 90s that I only really half knew. It was only recently for instance, from a 30 For 30 documentary, that I found out Jordan's dad was murdered and that was partly why he took a shot at a baseball career.

I found it really interesting trying to compare the culture around American sports to football. The off the cuff post match interviews in the 90s seem way more candid than what we get over here, but also the fixation on the sport as a business (obviously not unique to basketball) never sits well compared to the traditional social roots of football clubs. Maybe American sports are simply more honest about that side of it compared to top flight football but it still feels a bit soulless at times.

It was pretty clear towards the end how heavily this favours Jordan's point of view so it's no surprise to learn he had final say over the edit. Shame to see Scottie Pippen is really quite upset at how he was portrayed because of it, when Michael Jordan was probably even more of a dickhead than even this favourable edit suggests.

The Last Dance - 9

Best sports documentary I’ve ever seen and one of the best docs all together. It’s so good when these things can get all the major players involved, though obviously it not having Krause hurts it a bit. As does the fact that Basketball is kind of inherently gooseberry fool. Does a great job of getting you invested though, I certainly remember the boom it had over here at the time, though going back to watch Space Jam is excruciating. Interested to hear why Pippin is upset at his portrayal because I think he probably comes across one of the best of everybody. I’m surprised to hear Jordan had final say on edit because it certainly felt like quite a balanced portrayal and certainly doesn’t make him out to be a saint. It’s crazy to see the lives these professional athletes led back then. strawberry floating chain smoking cigars and going off the be in Wrestling the during finals prep. Maybe we’ve just become accustomed to things in top level sport being Uber professional and sterilised that a lot of this just felt out of control. Loved it start to finish, some of the presentation could have been better and a lot of the footage is very poor quality, but overall a fantastic watch.

Community. Seasons 1-4 are really good. The dynamic falls down when Jeff becomes a teacher and Troy and Pierce leave. Annie and Brittas role change too much, Alison Brie is very good, but they totally ruin Gillian Jacobs. Abed doesnt have Don Glover to bounce off. The guy off Beverley Hills cop is good, but its a different role to Chevy chase. The Dean is good. Chang changes too much - he was better as a baddie. Jeff goes from being a creep, to being cool, and then being a bit a a dick (Ive been watching Cheers and Id liken his character to Sam - Sometimes can be quite cool, but other just a cringeworthy creep). The whole balance is lost. Season4.5 - 6 gets a bit too serious and boring - centering around making money to save the college, a few good episodes cant save it. Hope there is a movie and get Troy, Pierce and Shirley back.

I've not long finished watching Community and I'd pretty much agree with the above post. If it had kept up the quality from the first three seasons it would've been one of my favourite shows ever. It's still pretty good, but there's a definite dip in quality in the latter three seasons. Season 6 was weird in particular because of how dark the show was lit, it was a very harsh contrast after mainlining the previous seasons.

The Mafia Only Kills in Summer Series 1 9/10

Charming Italian drama set in Scilly in 1979. Great characters, drama and plot. Despite not speaking any Italian, I found the actor who plays the 10 year old son was fantastic.

Available on 4od, highly recommend.

Ancient Aliens (Blaze Channel) - 2/10

Hilariously crap! Ended up on it because i couldn't find anything decent when channel hopping.

Their explanation for anything and everything is aliens, plus you also get the added bonus of seeing that alien meme guy with the weird hairdo.

I finally finished Mad Men over the weekend too. Season 7 wasn't one of the best but overall the show is a masterpiece.

Mr Robot 1x01- Okay but if Christian Slater's character is a hallucination, I'm never watching this show again. That trope has been done to death.

We guessed it about 3 episodes in and thought it was so tired and obvious that it wouldn't be right, so needless to say we gave up on it after one series
