Also started watching Superstore on Netflix, so far it seems like an American version of Trollied (before it went crap after series 2) if anyone here has watched that, onto episode 3 and found it pretty good so far.

Jawa was somewhat right about The Office, the quality does drop off after a bit. There's some good episodes strewn through it, but yeah, the writing isn't as strong.

The Scott's Tots episode though. So cringe worthy.

It just ticks all my boxes really, 80s style, some body horror going on, good storytelling and attention to wee details and characters that I genuinely like.

I also really love that there is a “big 80s name” in each season so far, or at least an actor who had a big hit movie in that decade. Like, s1 had Matthew Modine, s2 had Sean Astin and Paul Reiser. Looking forward to seeing who pops up in s3 and s4 when that airs.

Season 3 of Stranger Things was brilliant. I wasn't massively keen on the second, so my expectations weren't great, but I was blown away by it.

I need to rewatch ST3 as I really didn't like it after the first couple of episodes but it had absolutely won me over by the end. I think it's one I'd appreciate far more on a second viewing.

I still really like the 2nd season though. Not sure why it's considered to be weak.

Yeah, I'm not sure either. It has that one episode that everyone hated (but I thought it was okay). Maybe that?

It’s A Sin - 10/10

I’ve never been a huge fan of Russell T Davies' work and really didn’t think much of his last miniseries, Years and Years, but this is a heart wrenching, funny, beautiful masterpiece of television. Maybe the best of British TV in the last decade.

Nearly 6 years late, but Narcos - 9/10. Has a proper Scorsese vibe, well written and acted. Can’t wait to sit through seasons 2&3, and the spin-off.

Ozark - Seasons 1, 2 and 3 (Netflix)

I was gripped right from the off; great filming and excellent characters. At points the violence is very strong but, for me, it's the sheer intensity of certain moments that really stands out. There is real sadness at times, too, and the overarching inevitability of developments hangs heavy.

Hugely enjoyable and I'm excited to see what the upcoming final season will bring. [9]

Star Wars Rebels S1-3 - Considerably less gooseberry fool than I was expecting it to be. In fact, really rather good.

In an era of TV and film that is largely predictable (if still entertaining), the hammer blow of Richie dying alone and without being able to say goodbye to his friends took my breath away completely.

I didn't really get into Ozark. Funnily enough when me and my gf started watching, it went straight to S2 (as the 1st season was watched by someone else) and we didn't realise until about the 3rd episode in :slol: . But even going back to watch it how a normal person would it just felt like nothing was happening. Lots of sitting in a dark cabin and irritating characters. The fact season 2 seemed to be that too has given me little urge to finish the first season. Maybe one day though.

Agreed, especially when trying to process the fact he had been going around knowingly putting many other men at significant risk of infection. He could reasonably be considered guilty of mass manslaughter, but then, aren't we supposed to be rooting for him?! Great to see complexity in this way rather than a more typically 'pure' leading character.

I love the flaw of Ritchies character. He's someone that denies reality at all times until the end. Whether its denying HIV/AIDS exists in episode 2, not wanting to know the truth of his result in episode 3, shutting down the conversation around the protest in episode 4 and even his friends berating him for voting conservative, voting against his best interests. Only at the end does he talk about the damage he's done to himself and other men. Even after all this, him dying alone was the saddest outcome possible, the moment his mum says she'll take him home, we know its all over for him.

It's interesting you've read it that way as I took that scene to be a continuation of the deep sense of shame he's felt his whole life from being gay. When he says he gave AIDS to Donald by sleeping around and that he's guilty of killing men I don't think we're meant to really believe that, rather he's trying to justify to himself why he's ended up in his deathbed. Right as his homophobic parents burst through and ruin the chance for him to properly reconcile his feelings no less!

The series seemingly quite deliberately avoids the tired concept of Good AIDS vs Bad AIDS even when it's easy to see the two main characters who die from it as being more innocent and guilty. The reality, as Jill puts it, is that there isn't any point trying to look for a villain as all you'll find is some bloke. AIDS victims and the gay community were treated disgustingly at the time, and what hit me with this series more than any other AIDS story I've seen (and I'm not sure I can name another one based in Britain) was the sense of deep trauma gay people had to go through at the time as so many friends and loved ones died while the world pretty much looked the other way.

Oh yeah absolutely, I agree with all of that, but I don't think it stops him from being personally responsible for committing what is now (not sure if it was defined as clearly then) a crime. There were certainly a sense of ingrained shame and morbid self-reflection going on as you suggest, but I think it was literal when he specifically described how he had sex with lots of men knowing he was at risk of infecting them.
