Finished Breaking Bad.

Possibly one of the greatest shows of all time.

Edit: so good :toot: :msgreen:

It's the best IMO. So well crafted. And it wraps everything up so well.

Fringe

S1 - 6/10
S2 - 8/10
S3 - 7/10
S4 - 4/10
S5 - 7/10

I really wish they hadn't shat the bed so much with the fourth season "reboot" that seemed mostly an excuse to reheat old plots once they realised they had run out of ideas. The budget for special effects had clearly been slashed by this point and they clearly had to resort to some of the worst product placement I've ever seen to even keep the thing on the air.

The second half of season five at least redeemed most of what came before it.

This was a wild ride in tone and style amid increasingly desperate attempts by producers to get new viewers on board. It's a shame as it retained a real emotional heart throughout thanks to its core cast, which isn't a thing that's ought to be expected for something that routinely reminds you of reading too many late 2000s Cracked articles.

Did you ever watch Person of Interest? Similar structure to Fringe but was consistent and never got as bad as Fringe did at its worst. Fun show.

I watched a couple seasons of it, should probably get back to it at some point. It's a good one; kinda screams american action serial but I'm a fan of those types of shows anyway (agents of shield, magnum PI, quantum leap come to mind).

Absolutely one of the best. Personally, I'd say it only loses out to Evangelion.

It gets more sci-fi as it goes on.

Dead Pixels season 2. Love this show, it’s brilliant, I hope there’s a third season. Anyone else a fan?

Legends of Tomorrow S5 - 7/10

As much as I should dislike this show for being ridiculous and generally cheesy, that's exactly why I like it so much (and Caity Lotz :datass: ).

Bit unsure why they kept annoying social media influencer Zari instead of the interesting rebellious Zari.

The last scene was a bit wtf even for this show

Currently about 60% of the way through the 2020 remake of The Stand and it has... issues.

It's really dull at the start, and skips over what I (admittedly very personally) think are the most interesting parts of the story, but some of the character work is solid and by episode 6 it's found a stride. But, and I don't know whether it passed my by when I read the book at 14, or whether it wasn't actually in the book, but holy gooseberry fool the portrayal of Flagg's Vegas is.... without shining the Taf-signal... problematic.

Again, I could be misremembering the book, it's been some 20 years since I read it, but I thought that the divide between the goodies and baddies congregating on either side of the US was about the conflict between 'order and normality' (the baddies) and 'freedom and rugged individualism' (the goodies). I distinctly remember a line about how there were no scientists and doctors on the 'goodies' side because they were 'seduced' by the working systems on the 'bad' side.

But the show is 'obvious good guys' because they wear denim and vote on things while leaning on pickup trucks, and 'obvious bad guys' because.... everyone is in Village People BDSM gear and having gay sex in the middle of restaurants.

It's a take.

Act 2 of the book has several hundred pages of the good guys forming planning meetings and committees. It's not great.

Sorry, yea, what I mean was it's 'hey let's build a new society and form a town council where we allocate wood chips based on the size of your fireplace' (good guys) vs 'Hey we've got Starbucks and a functioning electrical grid' (booo hissss).

Alice in Borderland - 8/10
I didn't know anything about this, but thought it sounded interesting so gave it a try. I thought it was pretty good. I liked the premise, the characters, and how it kept changing things up. Main negative was that it just made me want to go back to Tokyo when that's not going to happen for a good while. :slol:

That book has an amazing first act. It gets progressively worse after that. The end of it is strawberry floating horrible. Wouldn't be Stephen King book without a terrible ending, I suppose.

Servant (S1) - 9/10
Went in knowing nothing about this other than M. Night Shyalaman was involved. Loved it. The camera work is excellent and keeps you on edge. You never really know what is going on but are given lots of clues and red herrings to keep you guessing. I love that it stays inside the house almost entirely. It really feels like a show that knows what it wants to do and I can't wait to start S2 and see where it goes next.

The Circle US (S1)

Enjoyed this. First time I've engaged with this series, interesting concept, int he same way Big Brother was interesting before they began casting for ratings. Chuffed that my guy Jersey Bro won. :toot:

Will probably check out the UK series.

First UK series is excellent. Second, less so.
