At least it’ll be corona rather than millennials killing them off

Radio Times and Take a Break still doing strong. Gaming magazines are understandably going to be selling less because gamers are more tech literate. I once in a blue moon buy a copy of Edge

A lot of these magazines are included in digital subscription platforms like Readly and Magzter which are amazing value.

Future, via their corporate website, has made public the sales figures of EDGE and Retro Gamer. Dates aren’t mentioned, but they’ve got to be 2018 or 2019.

Retro Gamer: 20,490
EDGE: 13,979

Pretty good stuff from RG there, which makes it even stranger it's not officially audited.

I'm subscribed to PC gamer but never read the bloody thing.

Leave the memories alone.

There's only one reason to do this: sales must be properly awful. I'm guessing it's also why some newspapers have begun gradually changing the narrative in terms of opening up the country again. Either this month (or in the next few months, for sure) the Daily Mail was on track to replace The Sun as the UK's biggest selling newspaper (though not because sales have increased at either paper, just because The Sun's have dropped).

If you're an advertiser though, why would you want to pay for an ad when you're not being given credible data to back it up.

See also Future Publishing. There's something inherently fishy about them claiming Retro Gamer is by far their best selling gaming magazine but yet it isn't being officially audited. That makes no sense, right?

Kotaku UK and Gizmodo UK are closing down on Wednesday 9th September. The website brands are licensed from G/O Media.

The original Kotaku US is unashamedly a blog format website but went off the boil a long time ago after Brian Crecente left. I still regularly check in on the US website but never the UK site which didn't make sense to me to have a cut-down version. The English-speaking gaming community is international so there is no need to have a UK localised version of the website that syndicates most of the same content from the US. Future should have just kept CVG running as it at a history and its own identity.

It's not nice to lose your job in a tough market but Future is a big company and hopefully it can find the writers new positions.

Gizmodo UK has been terrible for a long time now. Not surprised to hear of this. I used to visit it a few times a day but dropped off when they started covering non tech stuff too.

Never read Kotaku myself, but I’ve never seen anything good written about the website (not sure if that’s the UK specifically or just in general). Can’t say I ever saw Future Publishing advertise it either.

Future probably just want to focus on brands they solely own, such as GamesRadar.

Can't say I regularly visit any gaming sites these days, outside of forums (here and ResetEra). I'm mainly on YouTube and occasionally Twitch now.
