They changed the signpost maze to make it harder to access. In the original/DX you can use the pegasus boots and roc's feather to jump across, in the remake they made access require the hookshot. Probably makes it slightly easier to miss.

No. The 2D games don't exist just to tide people over until the next 3D Zelda in the same way the 2D Mario's don't exist to keep us going until the next 3D Mario. There are keen markets for both. People love both styles and Nintendo will continue to make both. The only difference now is both styles will be on the same console due the Switch's hybrid nature.

In reality, I think a remake was made because Grezzo are still a small team and as mentioned above, this was their first step into HD. I imagine Nintendo almost see this as a nurturing exercise for the studio. I wouldn't be surprised if they're given the opportunity to make their own new 2D Zelda next.

Actually gonna agree more with gamerforever on this one. The game is great and does look lovely (how you can get stuck is beyond me tho), but it's not a '3D Zelda' in the same way we distinguish between 2D and 3D Mario games. New Super Mario Bros. is '3D' but it's classed as a 2D game. Albeit it's a tad different in this case, but regardless, the point is, in the short time I played my friend's copy of the game, there were way too many frame drops. More so than Breath of the Wild. For Grezzo, sure, it may be a great achievement for them technically, but I agree it's no excuse for so many frame inconsistencies. I'm hoping they'll patch them out eventually.

Literally more of a gooseberry fool stirrer than me. I didn't even think that was possible.

Finished. Other than a couple of frustrating parts it was glorious.

I think overall I prefer this style of Zelda (and probably games in general) with a smaller, intricate world with item gates. It definitely made me appreciate BOTW more though. In an open world you really need all the tools available to you from beginning as it's unreasonable to expect a player to repeatedly go to the same locations and it makes the discovery that much more rewarding.

Ok so started this tonight, only played about an hour so far and I never played the original nor really see much of he pre-release footage of this.

It’s got a quirky feel to it doesn’t it, I love the inclusion of Mario related enemies and items. Gives it a bizarre, almost dream like experience (the 2D section in the Tail Cave caught me by surprise) It’s great to be playing a standard Zelda (I love BOTW but the original Zelda formula is still timeless)

All in all I like what I have seen so far, question, is it best to follow the hints you get from the Owl at the beginning and then explore more by yourself later on?

Explore as you go, you'll find places you can't get yet but that's cool because you can take note to revisit them.

Having not played it before myself I followed the hints to start with, they do slow down as you progress anyway so it nicely transitions from following directions to exploring on your own anyway.

Finished the 7th dungeon yesterday. Was on a flight so couldn't check the internet which meant I just had to keep on figuring until I'd done it. Not sure I liked repeatedly wandering around but it was a satisfying feeling when I'd done it. Just one more to go!

2 dungeons down now, I like how they added the marker system from BOTW so you can mark off areas of interest on the map for later.

I find it amazing how many people are struggling with knowing what to do and where to go, to the point of looking at guides. I was 13 when I played it originally

You were 1 year old when you first played Link's Awakening? Wow

I was still in primary school, probably about 8 years old, so I can agree with ad on this one.

The only time I found myself really struggling with what to do was when I was in a dungeon and had missed a wall that could be bombed, generally if it was a south facing one where you can't actually see the cracks. Didn't take too long to figure them out in the end but I could see why I got stuck in the original Game Boy version because I wouldn't have been able to see the bloody things on that Dot Matrix screen

Finally got around to starting this on the train today. I'm very happy.

Missed the breakable wall in the tail cave because I forgot when the bombs show up, but I've got the shovel and the heart piece so I guess I'll be good when they do get there.

Also, I'm done until tonight, but was wondering: you can still steal gooseberry fool from the shop, right?
