A substantial remake has great appeal to Zelda fans who know there's a long wait between the next mainline game. Perhaps we will see an Ocarina of Time remake in 2020.

I was thinking, with the block by block construction of the game that's come from replicating the gameboy game's tile based look, I wonder if this would lend itself to a Zelda maker game. Would be so good to make your own mini adventures and dungeons.

For the.actual game, hopefully it includes a master quest mode or.similar for those who've played the original a lot.

There's already been an Ocarina of Time remake - two if you count Master Quest on GC.

Remakes can be great but only if there's a purpose to them - don't just work your way through a back catalogue in order, remaking each. Remaking LA makes a lot of sense.

Like Ad says, surely this must act as a test run for a possible Zelda Maker in the future (And building on from that, Pokemon maker?)

A Zelda or Pokemon maker would be pretty neat, I don't see them happening though (although out of the two I'd say a Zelda maker is more likely just from a gut feeling a Pokemon maker would never happen )

I've thought about picking this up on my 3DS as well, obviously its worth it but I'm not sure if I should leave my first experience of Link's Awakening to the remake or not.....

I can't see how Pokémon Maker would be particularly fun. A large portion of the enjoyment in Mario and Zelda is from their environments, either through traversal or puzzles. Pokémon is really more a long term experience and I don't see it being well suited to a "Maker" style game.

The only problem with maker games is you don't get to play your own creations with fresh eyes. You could produce the greatest level ever but you're the only person who doesn't get the full enjoyment out of it.

I think Pokémon Maker would be neat in a sense that if a few friends (or online sharing as well) could create a game for each other. Maybe the overworld is the same but you can customise the gyms (name of leader, type of Pokémon used, how many Pokémon, maybe even movesets for them so they can have actual counter moves to their weaknesses), the Pokémon that appear on all of the routes, which legendary Pokémon will be the star or can be caught after the gyms before the Pokémon league. This way the player could be at a severe disadvantage for the first gym if it’s fire for example but the only route beforehand is a first filled with grass/bug Pokémon so the player faces a challenge. Only thing that could be a little tricky is a story with the evil group, but they could be preset and you could just choose between all of the evil groups available.

User generated content could work /in/ a pokemon game, but not /as/ a pokemon game imo. Being able to create your own gym and battling through others would be a great feature in an otherwise full title.

I could see Zelda working a bit better, but it's still not as easy and intuitive as Mario Maker. Mario levels can be more complex, but mostly are designed and played in the single moment - you make the jump and then move on. It's either possible or not. With Zelda maps - even just dungeons - you have to design with past and future scenarios in mind and be very wary of sequence breaking and edge cases, like where a key can be used. I can just imagine being endlessly frustrated with getting soft locked in a user's dungeon because you didn't do things in the exact order they anticipated.

Yeah the level of difficulty is too high to make a "Zelda Maker" a reality I would think, both in terms of the effort it would require on the players part to create these experiences as well as on the developers to implement all of the functions required to give players a suitable level of freedom to create.

It's a bloody good idea but it wouldn't be as mainstream as Mario Maker.

You’d then have to factor in boss fights into a Zelda maker as well, although again it would probably be a case of choosing a pre existing boss and just mixing up the phases of attack patterns to keep it a little on the fresh side.

While it’d be nice to see both of these becoming a reality I can’t see either actually ever being made.

Princess Zelda's Dungeon Designer would be an incredible "game" (devkit?) but I think comparatively few people would have the patience to sit down and learn how to make a really good Zelda level. Maybe the average player would use it exclusively to play levels, and it would be a relatively elite few who actually made them. I would absolutely play (& make!) it to death though!

You'd be surprised. I can't think of many other games with such a massive community of fan-made rom-hacks (I'm sure there are, but I don't know of them). The ability to write your own stories in the Pokemon world, as well as inputting Nuzlocke style restrictions means it's surprisingly fertile land for a maker-style game.

Not sure I'd have the patience for it, but it's definitely not a no-no.

You bloody idiots, Mario Kart Maker is staring you right in the face and you don't even realise it.

You buffons don't have the cranial capacity to make a Zelda game. But I bet even ignorami like you could make a circular track to go brum-brum around.

Also I'd like the Oracle games remade in the same engine after this please.

Eventually every Nintendo franchise is Maker'd and the devs can just put their feet up and let the fans make the games forever

Maybe they should release a Mario Tennis Maker, so we can have more than one court and be able to choose how many games and sets to play.
