I agree the WW:HD characters kinda look like plastic figurines, perhaps this was a stylistic decision as it reminds me a LOT of the Pictograph / figure colleciton side quest? Who knows.

i rather like the plasticy look

I've not seen a huge amount of WW HD content in order to compare it to the original but broadly speaking I don't mind the inclusion of bloom too much. It's the changing of the block lighting/shading mechanism on the characters that really kills it IMO.

It's about as red hot as my comment the other day on Facebook which was just

"Thanks for your feedback."

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

I never really liked Skyloft tbh, it had potential but as the hub and sole town it’s so static and lifeless. 10 years on from Majora and Clocktown its staggering what a large backward step it is. There are a few fun sidequests but its not really anywhere that was enjoyable to hand out it.

It adds a lot to the various weather effects in the game. Plus the interiors and exteriors feel far more distinct because the sun actually feels bright.

It really does, shame they couldn’t have kept the character models from the GC version with the Wii U’s better lighting. Although maybe they tried it and thought it looked terrible

Are the character models any different? In the comparison shot shared from yesterday it looks like the base model is the same but the lighting and shading is what has been changed to alter the appearance

I don’t know if the models are any different but they definitely don’t look as cel-shaded? They could be the same and the lighting could have just caused them to have the slightly plasticity look?

Skyward Sword was my least favourite Zelda game by a long way. There was so much about it that I hated.

Not that I'd ever buy this new version, but I'm interested to see what they change (if anything) other than a visual spruce up.

That’ll probably save a worryingly large amount of time throughout a normal playthrough

I found it astonishing even at the time of Skyward Sword's original release that some of those QoL improvements weren't implemented from the get-go. Things like item descriptions appearing every single time you pick up an item, even after you're hours into the game and have picked up dozens and dozens of said item, was just baffling.

If only they'd got rid of that boss fight that you have to do 3 or 4 times, and those stages where you collect tears or whatever they were. Awful :dread:

I'm really unsure about this. I loved those opening few hours and the Skyloft area but I rarely find Zelda boss battles to be much fun. I have a pre-order but I'm wondering if those updates really justify me spending around £44 on it when I could just load it up on my Wii.

Will mull it over for the next few days and then decide.

strawberry floating hell, the mad lads at Nintendo actually did it!

Optional Fi!

Item descriptions only appear the once!

Sped up dialogue!

Skippable cutscenes!

It wasn't every single time, it was the first time you picked up an item in a play session. If you played the game in a few long sessions it wasn't that bad. If you were playing in short bursts and turning the console off in between it was ridiculous.

It was peak handholding Nintendo, thinking that if you've stepped away from the game for even a moment you would need everything tutorialising again, and Fi interrupting to make sure you always knew exactly what you should be doing next. I'm so very glad they have moved past that kind of design now, for the most part!

I’ve got this pre-ordered as I never played it originally as I didn’t like the idea of motion controls. Looking forward to finally playing it and it seems these QoL features are making a big improvement over the original
