The newer Lego games are so gooseberry fool. We've held off on loads of them, only buying on pc dirt cheap through cdkeys on pc (we then play on the tv using steam link).

I'm excited for this, but also dreading how crap TLJ and ROS are going to be.

I've never really got these games, tried to play one of the earlier Lego Star Wars games back on the 360 and it just seemed really cheap and tacky.

There was certainly humour in the cutscenes but the actual gameplay was incredibly dull and just badly implemented - in a "my first 3D action game" kind of way it was full of the kind of jankiness that you could maybe expect or forgive in a fan game or something made in a tool like Dreams, but was just way out of place in a "real" game.

My son really enjoys playing the Lego Force Awakens game which we picked up a couple of years back but from what I can make out it's the same mess that they've always been!

Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens was actually pretty good. Perhaps the last decent Lego game.

Missus likes the Harry potter Lego, but it's so boring.

That's kinda what they always were, though. They never really evolved the formula from that ethos, despite one-time additions such as the cover shootouts of Force Awakens or the RTS battles of The Clone Wars. This time, from all the interviews that were released from E3 last year, they've thrown that way of thinking out the door. That's why I'm so excited about what this one will bring. Unlike any other game, this one will prove to be an almost completely new experience.

That's what happens when you try to make an adaptation of a series that saves most of its action for the end of the film. And that's also why I'd want TT Games to revisit the series with this new formula they've created. Throw out the standard levels, create a more accurate Hogwarts, and have the action take place within freeroam, only using levels for limited access places such as the Chamber of Secrets.
__________

Also, it seems like the key art is the only reveal happening today. More information on the game will come this summer. What I expect that means is during whatever Microsoft's June plans are.

Also, the Star Wars website has an interview which, while it doesn't reveal much, gives an idea of how much the franchise means to those at TT Games. Almost five hundred characters is mentioned, with a few surprises, and Yaddle!

If they are going to do a real overhaul on the mechanics and design of these games then I will be interested. Conceptually the Lego games have always been a great idea and they are admittedly fun to play with kids, but I'd love if they actually put out something that really shone as a game and not just as a somewhat fun distraction.

Then I suggest you get a taste for what those changes are with this IGN article from E3 last year. It talks about the various changes that have been made with the most depth of any article I've seen from that period. It's one of the reasons I'm so interested to see it in action.

It does sound promising, hopefully we get to see it in action soon to get a better sense of how it's shaping up!

The games are great for some local co-op, but the formula hasn't changed at all for so long. They're proper cut and paste jobs, to the point we'll be playing a new one and I can say, silver bit will need a bomb character, orange bit needs a strong one.

The Lord of the rings game is the best one by a mile, it's a really good adventure.

Have you played City Undercover? One of the best originals, and one of the best games, of the original era.

PostRe: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - Could Be Releasing In October
by DarkRula » Fri May 08, 2020 9:48 am

In the latest This Week In Star Wars, the host stated that The Skywalker Saga was to release on 20/October. But that's a Tuesday and this is a major release, they wouldn't do that, right? The release date was edited out of the video, which makes me think it is close to the mark. October definitely feels like it could be right, with 2018's DC Super Villains releasing on that month, but I certainly wouldn't rule out a late September date. Plenty of LEGO releases have been September.

I’ve enjoyed a few of the Lego games. Problem is you’ve played one you’ve played them all.

I’ll probably pick this up when it’s not full price for the multiplayer aspect. It’s been built from the ground up which is interesting, it looks nice but I honestly don’t see what else you do to the Lego style games to make it different without removing its charm & easy pick up and play

Now give me a console re-release of Lego Island :datass:

I'm very excited to finally see how this looks. How much of an improvement it is over other LEGO games.

There should really be one. It's meant to release this year, and the year's almost over.

Bout time we see some actual gameplay, hopefully the Lego formula has been spruce up a bit. Still surprise these games still haven't had any online multiplayer yet.

Looking hype as hell, and seems to be a lot on offer. And the humour is on point as ever. Unfortunate that it's been delayed, at least it's moving away from the monumentally busy October and Christmas periods.
