While I’m really enjoying playing a Lego game for the first time since Indiana Jones I can’t help but feel this didn’t really need to go open world to achieve the more varied gameplay we’ve got, especially when they’ve cut the option to replay an entire films worth of missions in free play. I reckon they could have just had either more smaller levels, ore the large levels we’ve got but fewer of them (but still with the option to replay), still with the Kyber bricks as a main collectible via exploration and side missions, but that’d have still given the player the chance to replay all the levels in free play without starting an entire new game, I’d like to think this is something they could patch in but obviously far too early to say if they will or not.

It’s a really good game though, but the above just seems like an odd omission considering all the other episodic Lego games we’ve had over the years.

Open world story elements have never been replayable in a LEGO game, which is unfortunate. It particularly hurts this game considering the greater focus with open world story elements. Hopefully with the next game they realise it's a feature people want, as I highly doubt they'll want to be messing with NTT any longer than they have to.

I don’t think I’ve played a Lego game with the open world elements to it, so slightly naively I expected to be able to replay all of the story content after I’d finished off a film.

Ah, that'd explain it. The earliest examples that I can think of it come from the Harry Potter games. With 1-4 it wasn't that bad, since it was just the lessons, but then 5-7 had stuff like Snape's Worst Memory and Dumbledore's visit to Tom Riddle playable, and such content would never be able to be played again unless you started the story again. The worst offender until this game came along would be City Undercover, as there were a fair few story elements hadnled in the open world with that one, but only the levels could be replayed.

I imagined Lego City Undercover would be like that, I obviously never played it but it always seemed like essentially a Lego GTA game of some sort?

Pretty much. The content was still heavily weighted toward the levels - all being within places not featured on the map (mainly inside buildings), but various chases and fights occured outside those levels that were directly connected with the story.

It's definitely got a real Lego City Undercover vibe to it.

Also, so many neat little touches. Like when you pick Neeson and he says 'I have a particular set of skills'

Maybe I’m miss understanding you but you can do this? You select the Episode you want to play rather than free play and you can choose which mission to replay.

Yes and no, from what I can tell there is no way to replay the story elements leading up to the journey through Naboo’s core as that’s the first mission available.

All levels can be replayed, with you able to use the Episode selector to do so. What you can't do is replay any story elements that are within the open world.

Big improvement over Lego The Force Awakens?

Me and my boy put 220 hours into that

Not so sure at the moment (we played TFA a LOT too). The actual levels are very short, and the focus seems to be more on an open area for those story bits to be set in, which is packed with collectibles. We're still in the first episode story wise, but there's only been what I'd class as 3 actual levels so far, and they were short. The rest of the time has been going around those open bits. It's very good though.

Which is what has thrown me a bit, in previous games you could experience all of the story infinitely whereas you sadly can’t in this one without starting a new game.

With the Switch version, I have now started on the original trilogy - completing A New Hope. I also went on a bit of a stud collectathon and have all but the last stud multipliers. But 348 million will come quickly, I am sure of that. Even if I were to just focus on the remainder of the story. There's just so much to enjoy with it. As for the Xbox version, Revenge of the Sith is now complete, though I did rush through the story and not get sidetracked exploring. I needed the cable to charge my phone, so couldn't just stream for three hours taking my time like I did the other two episodes.

I don't think I'm going to mind replaying everything I've done on the Switch on the Xbox, as it's just such a good game.

I missed your stream last night, Rula, but it was great to see some of the action on Thursday night.

Lovely to see folk having a good time with this and I do want to pick it up at some point. I still have a few Lego games in the backlog, though!

Thanks, jawa. Jazzem and Kriken were around last night, so we had fun even if it was a short time together.

I’ve not found any of the data cards (I think that’s what they’re called) needed for the stud multipliers alongside enough studs in general. They’ll be the first purchases I make though.

They're easy enough to find once you go looking for them.

I think once I've got the x10 one, I'll deactivate it straight away along with the x8 one. I highly doubt I'll be needing that many millions. Especially with the get-rich-quick scheme that bounty hunters allow (if you don't want to use the stud comet method).
