Life is Strange: Before the Storm - 3 episode prequel (LiS 2 comes later), first ep due August

Life is Strange: Before the Storm is a new three part standalone story adventure set three years before the events of the first game. This time play as Chloe Price, a rebel who forms an unlikely friendship with Rachel Amber in dramatic new story in the BAFTA award winning franchise.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm Episode 1 releases August 31, 2017 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam).

Did we really need to know how Rachel went missing?
It's also going to be extremely weird controlling a character without time rewinding abilities. That was one of the original twists on the standard fair gameplay.

As much as I liked LiS, I also don't need to go through what was adequately explained Laura Palmer-style through the original.

I adored Life Is Strange but this seems like such an unnecessary story to be told within the context of the first game.

Yup to all of these, I'm really not enthused about a prequel going into detail on things we don't necessarily need elaborated...given how many of those kinds of prequels have failed, it's hard to get excited about this. The original game gave us enough backstory while letting our imaginations fill in the blanks.
If nothing else, it'll be a treat to be back in that world again.

Exactly. I did not want this, the Rachel story was explained and told well enough in the original. Still, if it reviews well I might give it a shot!

I made a mistake in thinking the Deluxe Edition included the original game, on closer inspection it's just the original for some reason.

They're completely separate stories. There are few easter eggs but anyone who hasn't played the first will just pass by them without even realising.
The crossover comes in a short after credits sequence on the final episode, episode 3, but again it's not part of the prequel story. That scene
