With the AC departments being headed by Osborne-loyalists? It’s over.

It's easy enough to blow that open with a vast number of possible storylines. Hastings continues investigating (either as a policeman or civilian), Carmichael starts investigating after Hastings speech to her, a Gail Vela type journalist starts digging in, Osbourne dies and incriminating stuff is found in his belongings, Buckles decides to talk to get his sentence reduced, Steve/Kate go behind their bosses backs to dig in, a new copper (the annual celeb series guest star) is investigated for corruption and gets linked to the OCG.

Bit far-fetched.

None of those are far fetched (in the context of the show).

I thought it was absolutely fine. Wrapped things up well even if it wasnt as exciting as the show can be. I like how we were denied a big action sequence because the team were finally one step ahead. Glad I never got into the massive hype of who is the big bad and I think its really apt that the story went the way it did given whats actually happening right now in the real world. There is certainly more to be uncovered higher up. I do think they could have done a bit more with the characters. Like if someone tried to gain leverage over Steve because of his back. But Ted confessing and his speech about the systems failures and peoples lack of integrity to allow the corruption to grow was spot on. Even if the CGI lift was not.

So much of what makes LoD brilliant and tense is seeing and knowing a character is trapped. Whether they be under cover, blackmailed or bent with the net getting closer. As such unmasking a "faceless" bad guy just isnt going to hit the same marks. The audience isnt really privy to the journey he went on and of course in a show like this its going to just told mainly via evidence.

I want to be taken into witness protection.

Just finished watching this, thought it was quite good on the whole! Not just because I guessed the 4th person correctly  If it was the last series, they certainly didn’t rush to the ending like Game of Thrones did in the last 2 series and it ended on a note where they could do a 7th series or not. As I said in my previous post, if there is a 7th I can see it being a shortened one as Osbourne still looks dodgy as frankly and I don’t think they could stretch that out to a full series without it feeling drawn out. That CGI lift though :fp:

Witness protection can be cushy can’t it.

I think there will be a 7th. The ratings have been massive and it’s definitely left open for further development.

Yes that lift was awful

Also I think some people complaining that Buckles was the mastermind behind it all have got it completely wrong. Yes he was one of the people giving orders out but he was never revealed to be the top dog. The explanation for me was that he was actually being controlled by someone else whether it’s the ‘head of the OCG’ or Osbourne isn’t clear.

They left it open, if they don’t do another series then they’ve achieved the goal left for them at the end of the 3rd series, getting the other 3 high ranking officers. If they do another, they can delve into who has been masterminding it behind the scenes (Thurwell could be a good shout if he faked his own death to put them off his trail, seems like a big character in the scheme of things who we’ve barely seen). I’ve seen on Twitter people mentioning about who forged the document, but I think that was quite good as it shows no matter now insanely hard AC-12 work, no matter how many bent coppers they can get there is always more so getting the 4 ‘H’ people was just the 4 currently serving, highest ranking officers (if Osbourne is clean but in his position he’s relatively untouchable without concrete evidence).

Yeah, it’s frustrating that some people (including two TV reporters I’ve seen today) still think they were looking for H, the ringleader. They made it very clear that “H” was a mis-step, and they were looking for four people, three of whom they had already nailed.

Buckells was completely incompetent, and just abused his position to let the OCG(s) get away with stuff, under their instruction. It’s why he was so shaken by being present at Lakewell’s murder - he’d never actually been exposed to the dirty side of things in person.

But, of course, someone kept promoting Buckells despite his incompetence. I guess that could have been Hilton’s work, before he was offed.

I do sincerely hope I’m wrong about it being over. I’d love to see another series, with a newly righteous Carmichael carrying on Ted’s work. But it just seems like the perfect time to draw a line under it now.
