2k upcoming games leaked - New details of the rumoured Marvel XCOM game

Codename Daffodil is a Borderlands spin-off featuring Tina Tina, with a final name that may be "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands". (Gearbox recently trademarked "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands"). This game is said to be in the same style as the mainline Borderlands game.

Codename CODA is said to be a new Marvel-themed XCOM-style turn-based strategy game from Firaxis.

And Codename Volt is a new action game early in development described as "Cthulhu meets Saints Row". This may be the new game from 2K's own Hangar 13.

Never played XCOM myself but a Marvel based team based strategy game sounds great!

Unless you like your games punishingly difficult, do not start with XCOM 2.

I thought this sounded awful as well. And I love both of those things! But combined, just no.

I'm also not as thrilled about Marvel X XCOM as you'd expect either. I'm sure it'll be excellent but it feels like a cash grab, just sticking Marvel characters into the XCOM formula.

I'm hoping very much to be proven wrong though and I'm happy to give them the benefit of the doubt. I bloody loved Ubisoft's Mario/Rabbid game and that took me completely by suprise.

I'm very curious how XCOM will translate to a super hero game though. That game is tense as hell because one little strawberry float up can cost you your entire team if you're really unlucky.

I can't see that working with a team of super heroes. If they translate it verbatim, it'll just feel really weird with Dr Doom one shotting Hulk from behind small cover while Loki provides overwatch cover as Thanos dashes to melee a disoriented Antman.

I'm hoping its more Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D than Avengers, whereby you're mostly in charge of lower level heroes with occasional assistance from the likes of Hulk, Thor and Iron Man during certain missions.

The main appeal to XCOM is that you're not playing as a team of invincible superhuman badasses but as vulnerable human soldiers against overwhelming odds.

This makes sense but you don't pay for the Marvel license and not let the player use the superheroes.

That sounds good to me , I enjoyed all of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D that I watched and I liked how the more over powered characters only occasionally cropped up with Coulson often having to make tough choices and pull a win out of thin air somehow. But heck if it plays like Xcom I will take it however it comes. It's not like the Avengers have never met a foe who can make things tough for them.

The reason that it might still be [considered] a new property even though it’s a Marvel thing is that… this is not going to pick up any existing franchise in the [Marvel Cinematic Universe], it’s not even going to be existing characters,” Grubb said.

“So it’s not going to have any existing MCU characters, but it should take place in the wider universe.”

He added: “The game is going to focus on the supernatural elements of the Marvel universe,” he said. “I don’t know if that necessarily means like Blade, but I do think there will be vampires in it, and I don’t know if it means mystical Marvel [characters]… but I think you might see enemies of that type that you’re fighting.”

The journalist went on to claim that the title would allow players to customise a team of superheroes, similarly to how players can customise their squad in the XCOM games.

“I do think that the character that you’re playing will be a customisable superhero, or at least the team might be customisable, so it’s still going to have XCOM in that way, but that’s why it’s not going to be taking place in any existing lineage of franchises. So I guess they might consider this a new property.”

This has dampened my excitement, why bother getting the IP if you won’t use the main, known characters?

Yeah, just make Xcom 3.

Im open and willing to see where this goes before I make to much of a judgment.
