Someone has blown up a dog poo bin in South Woodham Ferrers

Image

Dog walker Mark Fox found the remains of the dog waste disposal bin along Creekview in the town on Saturday morning.

Shreds of the bin were strewn all over the field around where it used to stand, with bags of dog waste also thrown around in the debris.

It is unclear how the damage was caused, but reports have been made online that other bins had been targeted by setting off fireworks inside.

There's a thing here for blowing up the ticket machines, so they literally remove them for bonfire night and tarmac them over, before drilling out the tarmac and replacing them the following day, because it's cheaper to do that than repair or replace ticket machines destroyed by fireworks.

Wouldn't it be even cheaper to just hire a security guard for every single ticket machine for the night?

Bradley Stoke Town FC has a new player called Bradley Stokes

"The club secretary thought I was taking the p**s"

"Bradley Stoke Town FC has a new player this season with the perfect name - Bradley Stokes.

Yes that's right, Bradley Stokes.

The 23-year-old. graduated from UWE after studying business and marketing, isn’t from the area and it is not a co-incidence he joined Bradley Stoke - he signed up purely because of the name.

On leaving university the centre-half, who works for HL Training Services, decided to find a football club for a hobby.

He said: “I knew there was an area called Bradley Stoke, so I googled it to see if they had a football team because I thought that would be cool.”

There was - Bradley Stoke Town FC, who play in the Bristol and District League senior division.

Bradley called up the team and arranged to watch a reserve game before signing on. When he told the club secretary his name though, they thought it was a joke.

Bradley said: “He thought I was taking the p**s, and asked to see my ID before filling in the signing on forms.”

And there was more laughter when Bradley was introduced to his new teammates in the changing room. He added: “Most of them just started laughing at me to be honest, they couldn’t believe it. I suppose it is a bit weird.”

But since then Bradley has settled in nicely and says they have all been very welcoming.

Manager Jon Welsh, who also thought Bradley joining this specific team was a joke at first, said when he sends the scorers names into league he was expecting them to flag it up, but no-one has questioned it so far.

He added: "Bradley is a great lad and has settled in very well on and off the field."

Bradley is of course the first name on the teamsheet each week, whether he is playing or not.

Bradley says he has no regrets on joining the club of his name, and all the players have become his friends. The season has gone well so far, with Bradley scoring five goals from set pieces and the team currently sitting in 4th. He said: “I guess I am just in the right place at the right time .”

With a name like that he most definitely is."

More from the Bristol Post as the most popular band ever arrived in the city for a gig...

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/whats-on/ ... GnKatOnw2s

US rock band creates fake fan base and plays at Bristol venue - to NO ONE

An American hard rock band which created a fake fan base to land a European tour were left playing to an empty venue in Bristol - after no 'fans' turned up.

Jered Threatin - who describes himself as a musician, singer/songwriter and multi instrumentalist from Los Angeles - is currently performing across the UK with his Breaking the World tour and had booked a gig at The Exchange in Bristol.

But despite claims by Stage Right Bookings who hired the venue that 180 tickets had been purchased, no one turned up.

Threatrin was left to perform to an empty venue, watched only by the sound engineer, the tour manager and two members of the support band.

Andrew Williams, a member of one of the support bands, posted on Twitter: "No one showed up for him.

"We had 13 arrive for us.

"The other support band cancelled and he wasn't even good. The musicians he hired to play with him were far better."

Threatin was asked by the owners of The Exchange to pay the hire fee before taking to the stage.

Billy Bingham plays with the band Ghost of Machines who were booked to support Threatin at The Exchange.

Billy told the music website NME: "After our sound check at 6pm everything seemed normal like any other show.

"We were told 180 tickets had been sold in advance and we anticipated a great evening.

"Just before we were about to go onstage at around 8.45pm with only a handful of people through the door who were on our guest list, I was told to postpone as the owner of The Exchange had pulled aside Threatin’s tour manager to explain why no-one had entered the venue with advance tickets.

"It turned out that the promoter had lied about tickets sales and all of the confirmed attendees on FB were fake accounts based in Brazil.

"Threatin was asked to cover the venue costs or the show would be cancelled.

"In the end he agreed to pay and due to our later stage time, reduced our set by 15 minutes.”

And it seems as if it's not just The Exchange which has fallen foul to Threatin's tactics.

Only three people turned up to a planned gig at The Underworld in Camden in London as well.

Posting on Threatin's Facebook page, the venue said: "What happened to the 291 advanced ticket sales your agent said you’d sold? THREE PEOPLE turned up.

"Please don’t lie about ticket sales, and please don’t contact us again for a show.”

Threatin has 38,000 likes on Facebook and the event page was listed as having 100 or so people attending the event.

However the majority of those who said they were attending are actually based in Brazil.

The Facebook likes are believed to have been bought, rather than genuine, in a bid to boost Threatin's social media status.

His Facebook page cannot now not be found along with many other of his social media posts.

And on his Twitter account, only 'confirmed followers' are allowed access to his tweets.

The website Threatin.com now only appears as a black page featuring the band's name.

Videos of Threatin performing on You Tube also show the crowd obscured. The video for his track Living is Dying on You Tube features Jared not only singing, but playing every single instrument.

On Threatin's tour page it says the long haired rocker is due to appear at Le Klub in Paris on November 13.

A spokesman for the Exchange told the Bristol Post: "On the face of it Threatin were a successful band with a record label, PR company, promo videos and a strong social media following.

"We regularly ask promoters for ticket updates and were told 180 advance tickets had been sold.

"Fast forward to the night and there is no sign of the promoter.

"The singer tells us that she is not here and in Hollywood.

"This means we don't have a ticket list and the venue hire hasn't been paid.

"The singer and tour manager aren't here at the time we open doors, so we just have to wing it, only an hour after doors not one ticket holder has turned up. We can't reach the promoter to discuss.

"When they arrive back at the venue we explain that without the hire fee we are unable to continue with the gig as we are racking up costs by just being open.

"The singer and tour manager walk off in a huff and return with the full hire fee.

"At this point there are only a couple of guests that the support bands have brought in the venue.

"Eventually Threatin hit the stage, and instead of playing to expected crowd of 180, they play to the sound engineer, the tour manager and two members of the support band who feel sorry for them."

Bosses at The Exchange then contacted the Birmingham and Manchester venues where Threatin was due to perform to make them aware of what had happened.

The spokesman added: "They inform us that Stage Right Bookings are the promoter's for their event as well, and they have also been told that around 200 tickets have been sold.

"Upon challenging them, the Manchester venue are told that the reason Bristol was a bad show was because 'the venue hadn't promoted the gig properly' (this would be the promoter's job) and that 'the tickets updates we sent were just estimates'.

"In all fairness we can understand that it's easy to get confused between 180 sales and 0."

Further investigations by the venue revealed that the US tour by the band didn't actually happen and that only 26 people have listened to Threatin in the last month on Spotify.

The spokesman for The Exchange added: "In short, one of the strangest things to have ever happened to us."

Frocester man's shock after gate dislodged by car

Image

A Frocester resident was shocked to see the state of his gate this morning.

The man awoke to find that his gate had been hit so forcefully by a car that one of the gateposts had become dislodged.

He says he believes that a car hit it after spinning on wet leaves.

"It must have damaged the car involved," he said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the police on 101.

Make Brighton weird again!

This woman says 'Brighton isn't weird enough any more'

Image

BRIGHTON is no longer the place to be for eccentrics – and now you get stared at for being different.

That’s the view of resident Jacqueline D’Hazzard who says her home city has become “gentrified”.

She used to enjoy walking round with her green dreadlocks, body piercings and goth clothes, which she said was “a pretty standard look for Brightonians”.

But the 52-year-old says she now gets stared at.

She said the late journalist and punk poet Steven Wells summed Brighton up as a place full of “crusty-wusty, hippy-dippy ning-nang-nongers”.

She said: “There were a lot more people with dreadlocks, cyber goths, hippies and just all round eccentric characters.”

But now she fears it is slowly rejecting the diversity that gave it its welcoming feel and its streets are “filled with judgemental onlookers”, mainly visitors, students and tourists.

Jacqueline, who lives near Lewes Road, said: “I used to feel so comfortable walking around dressed really alternatively but now all I am faced with are bad looks. My partner and I are very goth looking but we feel very disenfranchised.

“My ‘look’ at 52 years old is being ridiculed and misunderstood owing to the influx of transients which makes me feel very marginalised.

"If I was going to visit family and friends in other cities or villages I would expect to get looks walking around but I never expected that to happen in Brighton.”

The city council’s five-year plan to boost tourism is one of the reasons behind Brighton losing its “ning-nag-nongers”, according to Jacqueline.

She said: “This idea of making the city more appealing to tourists implies there is a huge disregard for those that have lived here for years.

“They are stripping the residents of their culture and Brighton is slowly being sold off to the highest bidder.”

Jacqueline said independent businesses and pubs closing and the “influx of chains” and coffee shops has made her and her friends feel more disconnected from the city than ever.

She said: “They want commuters to come down from London and rich tourists to come and have an expensive coffee in one of the hundreds of cafes that have saturated our streets.

“Not too long ago there were so many more independent shops where you could buy alternative clothes but most of them have been pushed out and replaced by yet another coffee shop.”

She also said the high percentage of students living here has made her and her friends feel excluded.

She said a lot of her friends around the age of 50 with tattoos, shaved heads and piercings are being “pushed out” and living further away from the city which “appears to be cleansing itself of sub-cultures”.

Jacqueline said: “There were so many great pubs in Brighton that you could go to and feel welcome no matter what age you were or what style you wore.

“There used to be a lovely connection between all the pubs in The Lanes and they used to let all the crusty-wustys in.

"I can’t believe Doctor Brighton’s has just gone, that was one of the last remaining old pubs that stayed true to what residents loved as it always drew in a really mixed crowd.”

A council spokesman said: “Tourism is the lifeblood of our city and always has been. Everyone has their own view on what the ‘unique character’ of our city is.

“With regard to the relative merits of change and evolution affecting this ‘unique character’, we believe everyone is entitled to their opinion.”

Venkman: "Well, there are so many holes in Chipping Sodbury, we really didn't think anyone would notice."

Helicopter moves!

Man performed ‘helicopter moves’ with genitals on Edinburgh McDonald’s counter

Early morning customers and staff at a McDonald’s in Edinburgh got some unexpected entertainment when a young man began dancing, half-naked, on counters in the restaurant. At Edinburgh Sheriff Court today, 29-year old Ryan Dolan from Musselburgh pled guilty to committing acts of public indecency in the South St Andrew Street premises on July 22 this year. Fiscal Depute, Nicole Lavelle, told Sheriff Peter McCormack that Dolan came into the restaurant around 5am. She said he stood about two metres away from the counter, adding: “Out of the blue he took his trousers and pants off, showing his penis and testicles and thereafter was dancing with his trousers down”. He pulled his trousers back again, but then jumped across the front counter into the staff area. Dolan was told to leave, but took his trousers and pants off again. “He grabbed his penis and started to play with it,” said the Fiscal, “pretending to serve customers and started dancing again, carrying out helicopter-like moves with his penis”. This went on for a few minutes before he jumped back onto the front counter, still half-naked. Dolan then pulled his trousers and pants back up and left. Ms Lavelle described his actions as “boisterous acts, heavily fuelled by alcohol”. The police had been contacted and when shown CCTV footage, one of the officers recognised Dolan and he was later arrested. Sheriff McCormack was told Dolan had very little recollection of the incident. However, he noted Doland had two previous convictions for similar offences. He said he would have fined him £750, but reduced the fine to £500 because of the guilty plea. The fine to be paid at £100 a month.

Teacher delighted to find taste of Wotton in SE Asia

A one time Wotton resident, who now lives in South East Asia, was delighted to find that his breakfast marmalade hails from the town.

Image

Simon Carter lived in Wotton for 10 years, where he worked as a teacher at Katherine Lady Berkeley School.

He now lives in Brunei, in North Borneo, where he usually opts for local produce such as papaya or pineapple jam to spread on his morning toast.

But last week he saw a jar of 'orange spread' and decided to give it a try.

"Imagine my surprise to find Wotton referenced on the label," he said.

"A little taste of the Cotswolds in the tropics, even if it is produced in Serbia."

Indeed, the jar of Granny's Secret Orange was produced in Serbia, but its label says 'imported and distributed in the UK via Milanovic-Knowles Ltd', which is based in Wotton. And from there made it to the supermarket shelves of Brunei.

"The jar came from the organic section of my local supermarket, the Bruneian-Chinese-owned Hua Ho chain."

Simon says marmalade is generally not hard to find, and that many UK brands find their way into his local stores.

Simon worked in Wotton from 1984 until 1994 as a teacher at KLB.

"It was my first teaching job and I went from KLB to be head of English at Cirencester Deer Park school," he said.

"When the head there left to establish a new school in Brunei, I went with him as head of ICT.

"I am still there 21 years later, with my Australian wife and three daughters."

When he lived in Wotton, Simon was involved with the dramatic society and he finds that he still misses taking part in its theatrical productions.

"I also miss the seasons," he said.

"Autumn on the wooded hill slopes, winter in pub bars with the smell of wood smoke.

"Here there are no real seasons and every day thee sun comes up at 6.15am and goes down at 6.15pm.

"There are no frosty mornings here. It's about 27 degrees C every morning and 35-40 degrees at midday.

"Christmas in the Cotswolds is, of course, always special.

"Now it is either a private Christmas at home - public Christmas celebrations are not encouraged - or a sunny Australian one.

"Wotton, get those Christmas trees up - you are lucky you can!"

Chaos erupts at Aldi as shoppers fight over Kevin the Carrot toys

Image

Shoppers across the country have been queuing outside their Aldi supermarkets for one reason only - to bag themselves a Kevin the Carrot.

Some shoppers were seen queuing outside the supermarket from 7am as they tried to get their hands on the hotly anticipated cuddly toy.

Footage filmed inside an Aldi supermarket this morning showed huge crowds packed into its Special Buys aisle as customers tried to get their hands on the sought-after toys, reports Liverpool Echo.

One shopper could even be seen throwing the soft toy back to someone else who couldn't get near the display.

Before Aldi's Bootle store opened this morning there were huge queues outside as customers became desperate to get their hands on their own Kevin the Carrot.

And, it looks like this was also the case across the county, as shoppers have taken to Twitter to describe the chaos at their local stores.

User @SteSharp said: "Just seen two adult nearly fighting over a Kevin the carrot in @AldiUK crazy times. Good luck to anyone trying to get one now they are pretty much sold out now. #KevinTheCarrot #aldi."

@Stuartfergus said: "Never seen anything like that before @AldiUK old people getting knocked off their feet and kids pushed out the way... grown men sprinting down aisles to try and be first for Kevin the carrot and his clan."

Old Barclays sign revealed as Dursley branch closes

Image

Barclays ceased trading at its Parsonage Street branch on November 16.

Customers were informed of the decision by post in August.

The letter read: “The decision to close a branch is never an easy one; however, we are finding that fewer customers are using this branch to do their everyday banking.

Following the closure, the town still has two banks, Lloyds and TSB, plus a branch of the Coventry Building Society.

Maddy Arkle‎ captured the moment the Barclays sign was taken down, and an older version of the bank's sign was revealed underneath.
