He's working on a follow up to the Jimmy Saville story too.

He's going to hang out with Cliff Richard? :shifty:

Decent episode, but it does lack the general watchability of his tv programmes. His original shows were very good and then it just became a bit boring to watch.

I watched the episode last night and it was a great watch(not the subject though just the quality) and i felt so sorry for Joe. It's a terrible thing i bet to become an alcoholic but the reasons behind it as well are the tricky things that need to be dealt with and are far more complicated than just being addicted. I've never been an alcoholic but i can understand what some such as Joe was saying about the situation and how to ignore it . I have had a heavy drinking session to forget a situation such as death in the family. Lots of people go out and get drunk , some go on big benders over multiple days and it seems that some go to the extreme and then can't get out of it. His biggest issue was lack of local support to snap him out of it.

Some of the amounts though that they also drunk were insane.

I only ever watch recorded TV, and it means I miss loads of stuff that's coming on.

Might start buying the TV Times again. :datass:

Why do you say that? None of them seemed awful in the slightest, I thought.

Except Gary, the boyfriend. He was a complete banana split.

Yep he was a complete dickhead, she said she was with him because she was an alcoholic as well but i'm fairly sure she could find one who was a bit less of an arsehole.

Yeah with ease. Prick blatantly thought he's just a lad about town. Met so many people like him where they seem sober despite drinking huge quantities, then will turn to violence on a dime such as when the cameraman had to intervene before he assaulted Louie.

Was pleased to see Joe improving by the end, even if it's still uncertain whether he'll manage to stay away from the drink in the long term. Seemed a good bloke.

That was a pretty harrowing watch, TBH. As above, felt desperately sorry for them all, except that Gary twat.

Pretty sure I saw an article the other day that said he was still clean now. Although if he'd done 4 years sober before he's definitely still going to be at risk.

I just caught up with this on iplayer. Gary was obviously a twat of the highest order, but I felt sorry for the others, especially Joe.

The French lady just seemed to have given up. Very sad.

I just watched Drinking to Oblivion and can relate to how easy it is to fall into the perils of alcohol. My father could have gone that way and for a while I was convinced he would but thankfully he came through it, in fact it took a friend taking me to one side to tell me he was getting worried about how much I was drinking for me to realise I was heading the same way myself.

I saw it. Pretty upsetting really, especially the guy with his wife.

I felt horrible for the guy with his wife, less so for the one who's been branded unfit to stand trial for death by dangerous driving.

Ditto. That must be so emotionally crippling.

Your heart went out to his mum instead. During her first chat she is saying how much he's changed from who he was and she's about to follow it up with He's not my son (or words to that effect) but catches herself and stops. Genuinely heartbreaking stuff. I couldn't sit through all of it.

Yeah, I did feel pretty horrible for her. She basically said it all in the opening interview.
