Louis Theroux is back tonight on BBC2 at 9pm as part of the BBC’s wider spotlight on mental illness:

Mothers on the Edge

Louis Theroux returns to the UK to spend time in specialist psychiatric units which treat mothers experiencing serious mental illness whilst allowing them to live alongside their babies. Immersing himself on the wards, he meets women who have been admitted with a range of serious conditions - including depression, anxiety and psychosis - often triggered by birth or the strains of motherhood. As he follows the patients and their families both in hospital and recovering back at home, Louis explores what lies behind their recent crisis and discovers the immense challenge in caring for two people in the most vulnerable state of their lives.

Back on Sunday at 9pm on BBC2 for a 3 week stint, beginning with:

Episode 1 - Louis Theroux's Forbidden America - Extreme and Online

The film-maker returns to the US to explore the impact of the internet and social media on some of the most controversial corners of American society. He begins by meeting the new influencers of the far-right who are promoting an ideology that is defiantly racist, misogynistic, homophobic and anti-Semitic, often packaging the most extreme views as 'irony'. Louis attempts to understand their recent surge in popularity and challenges the divisive rhetoric that is being streamed to millions of young viewers online

Episode 2 - Raps New Frontline

Louis Theroux immerses himself in Florida’s multimillion-dollar rap scene – as notable for the controversy surrounding its emerging stars as its creativity.

Rappers have long mined their lives for inspiration to create and promote their music, but in the Sunshine State, some of the biggest artists stand accused of participating in the lawlessness their music describes. Raising the stakes is the 24-hour connectivity of social media, a world where the importance of record sales has been surpassed by streams and likes.

Louis spends time with a number of artists achieving success through self-promotion on social media – from those playing out fierce rivalries online to those live streaming their often violent and chaotic lifestyles. Whilst drawing in an ever-growing fanbase attracted to its unvarnished portrayal of real-life struggles and hardship, this content has also drawn the attention of the authorities, who see it as evidence of criminals engaging in 'illegal gang activity'.

Louis meets those at different stages of their quest to become the latest rap superstar, from those who have risen fast to those who have fallen hard.

Episode 3 - Porn (Title TBA)

Louis returns to the world of American porn, as the industry grapples with its own Me Too movement.

I'd have thought the 1st subject would have so much info to cover that all 3 episodes could have been dedicated to it.

Did anyone watch this last night? I hope to find some time this week, it's always great seeing gentle Louis, meek and mild speaking to absolute lunatics and managing to keep a straight face.

Yeah, a lot of the interviewees were very clear that they should not be classed as white nationalists, but in the same breath saying they disagreed with interracial relationships and that America should be 80-90% white. It seemed like a strange semantic thing to care about when they were quite happy to discuss their racist views.

One absolute loser threw a hissy fit when Louis questioned him about giving a Nazi salute and went on a tirade about how he was was better looking, stronger and smarter than Louis

Now looking forward to watching it even more

Soon as you question these guys they fell apart, I actually laughed at a lot of what they said as it's so crazy.

If that guy becomes president that will be bad. But I did laugh again when it was revealed he broadcasts from his parents basement. It's such a cliché for these gamer types.

Also that girl was fully on board with them until they turned on her. Didn't feel sorry for her. She probably refused them or something and they then spat there dummy out.

That “twitter is gay” song that he thought was so good was incredibly cringey, and saying “bitch” after every statement :fp:

They claim to be freedom loving yet want to take away basic freedoms, they claim to be non racist but spout vile abhorrent hate,

Whatever there views are then just be honest and then at least people can debate/challenge them on those views,

God, that 'song' was so embarrassing, with lyrics and insults that may impress a 6 year old...

I've forgotten his name already, but I couldn't help but notice the bloke who streams from the basement had evidently stolen many of his talking points, cues and mannerisms from Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson.

He should be over here making our citizens, politicians and other public figures look stupid instead. Might wake a few people up.
