PostLow-Spec PC games.
by Deluge » Thu Oct 29, 2009 3:41 pm

Okay, my laptop is pretty good, but apparently hates games. Battlefield 2 runs like a heap of gooseberry fool, so I'm worried about wasting money on games which won't work.

Any suggestions for great games which don't require a good gaming rig?

Also: In before the "buy some new graphic cards lol noob". I'm looking for old games for cost reasons, aswell as shitty specs.

Thaks in advance.

You'd be OK with small games like World of Goo, Peggle, Plants Vs Zombies etc...

Broken Sword 1 & 2.

You can get them for about £2 in a pack now.

Peggle uses hardware acceleration, I think. If your CPU is fast and your onboard graphics are gooseberry fool, try turning it off.

Get a decent emulation setup like SNES9X or Mame.

I'd go with stuff like World of Goo, Audiosurf, Peggle, Broken Sword Trilogy, Plants vs. Zombies etc. Bought the latter two today, looking forward to giving those a whirl.

Try the Tales of Monkey Island demo (turn the quality down in the settings, should run fine then)

My dad's pc is equally lame, I tried running guild wars (which is like 6 years old) and it wouldn't even run @ 1fps!

Seriously? My netbook runs it fine. :?

Anyway, if your PC doesn't have great graphics hardware then look at older games and emulators. Anything 2d is fine too. Although Machinarium is a little slow-ish on my netbook (although it's barely noticeable most of the time) I think that's mainly due to Flash being a bit rubbish. Also I've only played the online demo so far, the download version might be a bit quicker.

There're loads of games about for lower powered computers. As long as you're not trying to make it your main gaming system there should be plenty of older or less intensive stuff to play.

If BF2 runs like a heap of gooseberry fool then HL2 and its associates should do ok.

Would TF2 be one of the said associates? I've played some of that and loved it.
