For some reason I'm not as hyped as I thought I would be for this. Possibly I just have too many other things on the go to spare the time for this right now.

I adored LM1 on the 'Cube back in the day but just don't have the same excitement for this at the moment. :(

I’m hyped, but I am genuinely worried. I think it sparks from the fact that I was really into LM2 at the time, but find it a bit... forgettable now? I can only remember a couple of moments without looking them up.

I'm not too concerned. What they've shown looks great and full of personality plus previews have been positive. And it looks like they've responded the big criticism fans had of 2 by dropping the segmented mission structure.

Never played 2 but I'm glad they seem to have learned from the feedback on that.

The original was such a Nintendo feeling game. I know some people were sad that the Gamecube didn't launch with something revolutionary like Mario 64 but there was still something incredibly special about Luigi's Mansion. It had so much charm and character to it and Nintendo seem to have a way of really honing the quality of the mechanics in their games - the core gameplay was pretty simple from a functional perspective, but it all worked so well and they still managed to do some really clever and inventive things with quite a small number of ingredients.

Never understood the complaints about 2, thought it was brilliant. In fact after playing through the 3DS release of 1 last Christmas (thanks GR SS!) and then moved on to the 2nd game straight after I preferred the 2nd game. Luigi was so much more polished, especially his personality and animations and it looks great on 3DS.

Just realised I basically wrote the opposite of what I meant up top: I was really into LM2 at the time. :slol: Thought it was a solid 9/10 game and that, as Garly says, it was bursting with charm and smooth gameplay that almost made up for the mission structure. I’ve just... almost forgotten it now.

I think many people enjoyed 2 (myself included) but the mission structure ruined the "exploring a haunted mansion" feeling that people loved about the first, and also made the game quite repetitive at times. They also did away with the portrait ghosts which were great in 1. Totally agree with what they did with his personality and animation though-something they've obviously carried on through to 3.

Retro have the reputation but NLG are quietly a brilliant developer for Nintendo (ignoring Federation Forces... :shifty: )

Reviewing very well :D

Have seen a few reviews mention a surprising number of bugs for a Nintendo game-I wonder if that Halloween release date rushed them a little?

Ninty Life 9/10. While what I read (I tried to avoid quite a bit of it) was mostly good, the lack of interconnectivity of the original remains it seems: each floor is entirely separate. Granted, that’s like the different mansions, not missions, from LM2, but it is just a tiny bit disappointing. Oh well, the rest sounds great.

Linear progression is fine with me, that's not the reason I disliked the mission structure in LM2.

Sitting at an 87 on Metacritic, what an incredible run Nintendo have had over the last 3-4 months, starting with Mario Maker 2 in June.

Very pleasantly surprised at the amount of 9s rolling in for this, looks like it could be the best yet!

Kicks off an awesome run in to Christmas as well.

Time for adventure

So happy this getting good reviews!

And if you prefer 1 over 2 you’re straight up wrong.

I’ve never actually played LM 1...... :shifty:

Not read any reviews for this yet but it certainly can’t be bad judging by the scores. I loved LM 2 although the idea of one large mansion of LM 1 did sound very appealing/slightly better than what we got in 2, can’t personally comment though. If ShopTo keep up like the have been recently with pre orders it might get dispatched tomorrow, if not then Halloween it is!

I thought it was generally held that the profitably was slightly better? It might have been shorter, but it was a leaner game, with a much more natural, flowing structure. And it had more character as the portrait ghosts were mini puzzles themselves, rather than the bland, indentikit red/blue/green ghosts from the sequel.

The sequel was good but by pulling you out of the levels at the end of each one, you repeated a lot of content. The original LM was maybe a 4-6 hour game, whereas the sequel was an eight hour game stretched out through repeated content.

I really enjoyed LM2. I'm not sure if 3 can be as good to me, as the 3d effect really added to the feel of it.
The first game was good, but i must admit i preferred the second one. It seemed to keep things moving forward whilst remaining involving more of the time, which i like in a game. I can see how it divided opinion though.

LM 2 also had an awful checkpoint system, unless you found Polterpup’s bone in a level, when you died you were straight back to the start of the level.

I think i only died once in the whole game, so that was never really an issue for me. I do remember one level near the end being frustrating in that regard - it had a 10 minute time limit or something. My anxiety went through the roof as soon as i saw it appear!
