You have to burst them out of the ground by using the jump move while you're next to them.

EDIT: Oh, never mind, I think we are talking about different ones! I'm not sure you can defeat the ones in the water. We just went past those.

I ended up just going past them as I tried a few times before calling it quits.

Yeah we got a bit confused by the water ones too, interested to see if there's a better way to deal with it than just hurrying past!

Only thing I can think of is using Gooigi somehow out of the water sucking at the shark ghosts with Luigi trying to stay out of trouble, would probably take a bit of luck though as I believe one hit deflates the rubber duck.

Plus, switching Gooigi would probably close the spikey gate adding an extra issue.

I was thinking you’d have to let them pass first, then switch back. It’d probably be hard to do though.

Played a bit of multiplayer the other day, was like an actual ghost town with hardly anyone playing. Maybe it'll pick up once people have done the single player. Seemed fun but limited, needed some kind of levelling up mechanic to prompt more play. For some reason though it reminds me of Spy vs Spy and that can only be a good thing. Not the laying traps aspect, more the flip screen room effect.

Self-awareness! Just a bit.

Meanwhile I spent about ten minutes working out how to hurt the boss of 6F. Done it eventually, thank goodness, and with a full complement of gems too!

Couple of areas were frustrating and the game felt a bit stretched out at times but otherwise I enjoyed this a lot... onto looking for Boos

Completed-15 hours 34 mins on clock, but still have most the boos and a fair few gems to collect which I’ll do next.

Final thoughts:

Overall, I loved it from start to finish. It’s certainly not perfect-the controls are fiddly in their default setting and while changing them per the GameXplain suggestion definitely helped, there’s still a few things they could have done better. I think someone here suggested better auto aim for the plunger and that would have helped.

The highlight for me was the bosses. Apart from a couple that frustrated (B2 due to the controls, and Floor 15 was difficult in single player) they were brilliantly designed. All extremely distinct and worth beating for their finishing animation alone.

The levels for the most part were great too. Favourites would be 1. Paranormal Productions 2. Tomb Suites 3. Twisted Suites. The hotel setting worked very well and I think the premise suited the game perfectly.

There was a little padding-I don’t think the Polterkitty added much and we certainly didn’t need it a second time. Also, I thought the pirate floor was really underbaked, there’s a lot more they could have done with that-pirate ghosts could have had some funny moments. I think 15 hours is an ideal length for a game like this but would have ideally dropped the kitty in place of extending some of the shorter levels out.

The gripes don’t detract too much from the overall experience though. It’s got to be one of the best looking games on the Switch, and the music (bar a few duds) suited the game perfectly too. For me, the best of the 3 Luigi’s Mansion games so far I think.

Spy vs Spy would be great as a HD re-release now you mention it.

Yep, I'd be all over that.

I was playing this online on an Amiga emulator about a year ago with a mate of mine. Game holds up. That music

Floor 12 - could be the greatest boss fight I've ever seen. So imaginative, so cool to play.

Im in floor B2 at the moment. I've just drained the water out after the rubber duck bit. This area looks so good

The thing that I love about the bosses in this game is that they don't add in a new weapon or ability just before you get to them (a la Zelda). You have all the tools you need for every boss right from the start. The genius is that they've made over a dozen very different boss encounters using the same toolset and made each one satisfying in their own way. This is a very good game.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if it was just a boss rush game. It's the annoying puzzles and constant throwing up of road blocks that pisses me off. Probably why Floor 14 was one of the more enjoyable.

Having got to Floor 15 I'm done with it for now while I lend it to a friend so I can play Pokemon.
