Eriatark by The Mars Volta has some really weird lyrics with a strange distortion effect and for ages I heard a couple of bits completely incorrectly.

Trackmarked amoeba lands craft (I heard this as Tadpole animal and crap)
Cartwheel of scratches
Dress the tape worm as pets
Tentacles smirk please (I hear this as Tattooed Goldfrapp)
Flinch the cacooned meat
Infra-recon forgets

And the other bit I got wrong was

Evaporated the fur (heard as It never rained here before)
Because it covers them
If you only knew the plans they had for us

I just dug this thread out and notice the last post is about the song I am posting about!

BYOB by System of a Down. I can barely make out any of the lyrics anyway, but I heard it as "why do they always sit in the park" and have just found out it's actually "why do they always send the poor".

Which completely alters the meaning of the song. I always thought it was about the authorities being horrible about kids and not letting them have fun. Whereas it's actually an anti-war song

If this is the right lyric, Rock Band has it noted down incorrectly as well, they have "Barbarism by Barbarus"

It’s not a song lyric but my brother used to think the main character in The Matrix was called Neil.

I thought Beyonce was singing about 'chicken legs', but it turns out she was singing about 'single ladies'.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

Shameless self-promotion but if you can access this, give it a read - it's about why Serj Tankian wrote BYOB among other anti-war music. :shifty:

8-)

I have a PDF version that I keep meaning to host somewhere for anyone who actually wants to read it, but for some reason there's not much interest in the academic study of System of a Down and the guy from NOFX.

Yeah! He's actually a really important anti-Iraq figure, ran a website that may have registered half a million voters, raised $1m and worked with guys who masterminded Obama's PR and youth strategies in 2008.

I'm going to take that as anti-war. Right?

Edit - from Wikipedia:

Rock Against Bush
As with Punkvoter.com, Mike organized the Rock Against Bush campaign to mobilize punk fans and musicians against President George W. Bush. Fat Mike's band NOFX, along with many other well-known punk artists including Alkaline Trio, Green Day, and Jello Biafra, embarked on a tour of American college campuses in the months leading up to the 2004 presidential election. Mike hoped to go beyond just protest and actually educate kids about why they should vote against Bush. At the shows, he would hand out free DVDs of Uncovered: The Whole Truth About The Iraq War, a documentary that questions the Bush administration's motives in the Middle East.[14] To coincide with the tour, Mike released two Rock Against Bush compilation albums on Fat Wreck Chords featuring new music from some of the bands on the label. The albums sold over 650,000 copies and proceeds helped fund the tour, as well as going toward magazine ads and billboards in swing states.

That answers that. I will continue my album playthrough.

I listened to Keep on Movin' by Soul II Soul yesterday and suddenly realised that the lyric goes "yellow is the colour of sun rays", whereas I've always sung "yellow is the colour of some rain".

For nearly forty years I've thought the line in the Pet Shop Boys' West End Girls was...

In the west end town of Denwold

Like Denwold was a historically-named suburb of west London that I'd just never heard of. How wrong I was.

Actual lyrics: In a West End town, a dead end world.

I always think the last line of the chorus (45 seconds in) sounds like:

because my penis, don't get out that much
