Interesting news. Hopefully they're finishing off Wolf 3 and this is in pre-production. Both probably multi-platform.

Has there been a genuinely great one since Fate of Atlantis?

I know the Lego one was alright and the other one's are a mixed bag.

Looking forward to seeing more. I am hoping it's not going to be just another 3rd person action, platform-puzzler like Uncharted though.

I absolutely loved The Emperor's Tomb back in the day. Not sure how it would hold up now but I remember playing it multiple times and it was always fun.

I'm sure it's rose tinted specs but I seem to recall really enjoying The Infernal Machine back in the day

I'm interested to see gameplay but there really isn't anything to go on here. Been playing The New Order recently tho and it's pretty good so this could turn out well. Can't wait for them to turn indy into a tragic protagonist like blaskowitz.

Is Todd Howard a problem in some way? Like, the Elder Scrolls games generally are good, aren't they?

He's become the face of Bethesdas disastrous turn into live-service nonsense. The decisions would have been made far above his head by shareholders but the beardmind don't know any of their names.

It's more than just the live service problem. Todd is the head of the studio that develops TES and Fallout games and he was the game director for several of them, as a result it's not unreasonable to hold him responsible for many of the issues those games present and the general degradation in quality that those series have shown.

He's also a compulsive liar to the tune of about 4.5 on the Molyneux scale which doesn't help.

He's the exec producer here, which means he gets some cash for attaching his name and has to send the actual devs an email once every year.

Chill.

I'm looking forward to the crafting system that let's you take priceless artifacts, and then convert them into some kind of archaeological tool that doubles as a melee weapon which you'll discard when you find another one with better stats just letting around.

How high on said scale do you need to go to hit full Molyneux?

I look at the games that Todd Howard has had a big influence on and I kinda feel that, overall, they're good games:

Year Title Role(s)
1995 The Terminator: Future Shock Production, additional design
1996 SkyNET Production, design
1996 The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall Additional design
1998 The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard Project leader, design, writing
2002 The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Project leader, original concept
2003 The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon Executive producer
2004 The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey Executive producer
2006 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Executive producer
2007 The Elder Scrolls IV: Shivering Isles Executive producer
2008 Fallout 3 Game director
2011 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Game director
2012 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dawnguard Game director
2012 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Hearthfire Game director
2012 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Dragonborn Game director
2015 Fallout Shelter Executive producer
2015 Fallout 4 Game director
2018 Fallout 76 Executive producer
TBA Untitled Indiana Jones project

Yeah, there are the F76 memes but it seems hard to look at that record and think he's overseen a raft of bad games.

When was the last proper Indiana Jones game, 2003? The one they showed on PS3/360 looked like it could be good but it was unfortunately scrapped. It is rather surprising though that there hasn't been more Indiana Jones games considering the concept is basically 'Take Lara Croft or Nathan Drake out, and you put Indiana Jones in'. Which was exactly what they did with The Emperor's Tomb and it turned out much better than that year's Tomb Raider.

With the games you can keep the magic alive, something an aging Harrison Ford definitely can't do with the films. Dread to think how disappointing number 5 is going to be...

Well if you cut that down to remove the DLC/Add-ons, this would be my personal analysis of his track record:

1995 The Terminator: Future Shock - AVERAGE
1996 SkyNET - AVERAGE
1996 The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall - GOOD
1998 The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard - BAD
2002 The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - GREAT
2004 The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey - BAD
2006 The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - GOOD
2008 Fallout 3 - GOOD
2011 The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - AVERAGE
2015 Fallout Shelter - BAD
2015 Fallout 4 - BAD
2018 Fallout 76 not played it but lets say BAD
TBA Untitled Indiana Jones project

A pretty mixed record overall with the most recent games hardly inspiring confidence. I don't want this to be the Todd bashing thread, but for me personally his involvement is something that has caused a degree of concern.

It's almost certainly the case right that he isn't very involved in this, but then Bethesda deemed it necessary to directly tweet that he was overseeing it:

A genuinely exciting Xbox exclusive is a good thing!

It feels like Indy suits 3rd person/Uncharted gameplay a lot more than straight Wolfenstein style FPS. Will be interesting to see what way they go.
