Mad Men - The best show on TV

Thought the finale was beautiful. Such a great show that tackled what the workplace means to 95% of people who will donate most of their adult lives to a corporation. Will rewatch in a couple of years.

Just marathoned the second half of the final season, but haven't watched the finale. I was initially disappointed with the first 3 episodes, however the 3 after that were really great. Can't wait to watch the finale now.

I've had the finale on my mind quite a bit since last night and the more I think about it, the more I like it. A fittingly great end.

Well that was wonderful. Like most of what I just saw on this page, I immediately took the ending to mean that Don returned to New York and came up with that iconic ad, although there's probably something more going on that I'm too thick to grasp.

Gonna miss this show a hell of a lot. Like has been said, there really is nothing even remotely like it on TV. Would have preferred more Pete in the finale, I think he only had 1 minute of screentime.

And we never got to see Sal again

Not that I was expecting him to pop up given the nature of characters just randomly disapppearing and never being mentioned again on this show. It just never felt right with me what happened with that character. Oh well.

I've not really thought much of this series since it came back and was still waiting for the proper finale feels to really kick in most of the way through until don had his breakdown with that guy, then when the coke ad rolled it all came together beautifully. In the words of Bert Cooper, "bravo".

Glad we were spared the Betty death, better left implied IMO.

Bit of an epic bump but I watched the first episode of this again last night - after watching the first few episodes years ago - and was wondering how focussed the show is on the marketing side of the business?

I absolutely loved Don Draper creating the tobacco slogan on the fly and the surrounding business meetings, but remember not really caring about the more personal aspects of the show. As it continues does it still include plenty of marketing aspects or could the work side of things realistically be replaced with a lawyer firm, investment banker practice, etc. without a noticeable change in the show?

It remains a huge part of the show.

Yep, and I also loved the series for all the business stuff.

Bump!

I completely missed Mad Men when it was on TV but it's held in high regard so I thought I should check it out.

I found it hard going at first. Maybe that was because it's one of those shows that's supposed to be one of the best ever, I really wasn't seeing why it had that reputation.

But as it went on, it grew on me more and more and I was sorry once I'd finished it.

One major issue for me, was that I saw a big spoiler for it years ago and somehow remembered it, even though the only other thing I knew about the show was it was set in advertising in the 1960s and there was a character called Don Draper.

And the big trouble with the spoiler was that:

Theories around Mad Men were just insane at the time because a lot of people (including me probably) really thought every TV drama was secretly a Lost style puzzle box to be solved.

- Don Draper is actually D.B. Cooper, that's what the intro is about!
- Megan is going to be murdered by the Manson Family because of what she was wearing in an episode!

Really stupid gooseberry fool in retrospect. :lol:

I feel like doing a rewatch, it's one of my favourite shows of all time.

Oh and Roger Sterling is the best character. Don, Pete, Peggy etc etc are all dull as strawberry float compared to him.

I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Mad Men but then sort of lost interest and my wife watched the rest by herself. From what I saw of Megan, she seemed annoying as strawberry float.

I watched it on and off. It's extremely well-made, but narratively a bit aimless at times. Quite a few episodes never actually went anywhere interesting IMO.
