They will probably do the Squad can talk to each other and the Leader of that Squad can talk to the Leaders of the other Squads...maybe.

A good clan integration will be what makes or breaks MAG. Having 256 randoms running around, not listening to orders and spamming grenades does not sound like fun to me.

Those new screenshots look much closer to what I was expecting for a game like this.

I've read the EuroGamer and IGN preview so far and it's sounds fantastic.

EuroGamer wrote:MAG looks fighting-fit already, and PS3 could soon have a multiplayer shooter that will be the envy of all.

Joystick wrote:From a personal perspective, I've got to say that I came away impressed. I'm a long-time Battlefield player and love first-person shooters as a whole, and MAG nailed it in all the right places for a competitive shooter. A solid framerate ("at least 30fps at all times"), no lag, responsive controls, a great command structure, and a persistent world where your actions contribute to your faction's ultimate goal of ruling the world, makes for what could be the top shooter of the year, on any console. Modern Warfare 2, I hope you're listening -- this is the one to beat.

Vid - yet to see it so dunno if it's the same as the one already posted.

Did Joystiq just tell IW they should be aiming for MAG standard?

Screenshots look very early. I can understand trying to hit the 256 player mark but I wonder how much graphically they sacrifice in order to get to those lofty numbers.

I've paid little to no attention to this since last year's E3, but the Eurogamer article is certainly full of praise and while it's definitely ambitious it sounds like it could be cracking fun if they manage to pull it off technically.

The number of players shouldn't have any effect on graphics.

Unfortunately, it really does effect graphics. If they expect 256 player games and epic battles, it means they have to make sacrifices somewhere along the line.

But surely there isn't any graphics information being sent over the network it's all being done on your PS3. I don't see how having more players means your PS3 has to reduce the graphics quality :?

Edit: Actually having lots of players on screen at once would be a reason to lower the graphics quality, but the maps in MAG are designed so that you won't have all 256 players in the same area.

The PS3 still has to translate all of that network information into on-screen information. Gears 2 drops graphics from Singleplayer and thats only 5 v 5. With the potential of 256 players running around, plus voice comms, gunfire and explosions going off, developers always have to sacrifice something. It really depends on engine used and since its a custom built one, they might be able to pull of some magic. :P

Yeah, if MAG all of a sudden stops being a MMO shooter.

And all of a sudden doesn't just look like a random blastfest.

I have to say, personally, i'm only disappointed by what i've seen. IMO the reason for this game is to pave the way for future, better similar games.

The style of that trailer make it look to me like they're trying to cover up its less-than-CoD4 visuals with fancy between clips sequences.

Don't think it looks very good to be honest. Just looks like a boring free for all.

Well, its success or otherwise will depend very much on its structure for each individual player/squad.

Well that's an uphill struggle seen as the PS3 doesn't come bundled with a headset. I imagine some battlefield 2 style pointers will be present though.
