I paint some miniatures from time to time I've got way too many Warhammer fantasy and 40k armies. Everything I have is built and undercoated but I take ages painting so very little is actually completed :fp:. I have an Ogre Kingdoms army for fantasy and 40k wise Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Tau Empire, Dark Eldar and Chaos Space Marines. I made so many aircraft kits when I was younger I actually thought a week or so ago about getting one to build. I mainly made Revell kits and Kasegawa kits if I could get them at the right price. Do you use Vallejo paints?

I do have a few Vallejo paints, they're very good if a little watery. Having said that GW's quality of paints, (as well as colour range), have gone down hill of recent. GW seem to be aiming their products very much at children these days, simplifying everything to the point that there range isn't very good for the series hobbiest.

I'm always on the look out for decent paints that aren't GW.

I've reduced my usage of GW paints down to the odd colour I prefer Vallejo paints especially their Game Color range. I don't buy many of my modelling supplies from GW I use Winsor and Newton brushes and Vallejo paints. I do use the green stuff from GW though as that always works for me.

I'm working on a unit of Ogre Bulls at the moment which I've enjoyed painting.

I heard on the grapevine that GW are dropping their finecast models due to a serious lack of quality in the casts.

Personally I've not painted anything in an age, can't find the spark to get going.

I don't paint half as much as I used to just the odd hour here and there. I'm not surprised about the possibility of Finecast being dropped I don't know anyone who rates it. They should just make the whole range plastic the quality is fantastic and it would make it a lot easier for people to convert models. I think GW prices are outrageous there's no disputing the quality of the products (apart from Finecast) but how can they justify for instance 10 Hammerers for £30 or my favourite 5 Blood Knights for £61.50. I wouldn't mind but it harms their own brand stores more so because people tend to buy from 3rd party retailers like Element Games to save 15-20%.

My Ogre bulls are slowly but surely getting there just a pain painting so much flesh.

Basically GW went to gooseberry fool when the accountants took over; business bods who had no real interest for the product outside of how much money they could squeeze out of it. It all became utterly about the $$. Of course they knew they still had to produce a level of quality given their history, but they also knew they could start cutting corners and put prices up.

Happens with all the best companies, sadly.

I'm still waiting for the day when Toys R Us start selling Space Marine action figures and other such merchandise for the inevitable 12a movie.

I can definitely see a movie franchise in the future. The prices are extortionate but I do think the miniatures they produce are much better than what other companies have to offer.

GW figures are good, no question, but there are a few companies that are now producing high quality figures and which don't cost as much.

On another note the quality of White Dwarf has plummeted. It's just one big advertisement. Also the quality of their model painting and modelling features in the mag aren't nowhere near as good as they used to be. Just a quick glance through a copy of White Dwarf these days and it's obvious it's all been stripped back and dumb down for the under 10s.

I much preferred GW in the 'good old days'. :(

I was never a follower of White Dwarf to be honest I've bought the odd issue here and there. I really like Infinity I have a Pan Oceania force myself and it's a nice alternative game to play because you don't need that many models to play a good sized game.

You should put up some pics of your models in this thread. :)

Once I've finished my Ogre Bull unit I'll stick some pics up. I'm a terribly slow painter and I dip in and out of projects instead of concentrating on just one at a time. I think I have 3 or 4 Grey Hunters fully painted though.

Look forward to it.

Once the warmer weather arrives I might start painting again. Even with an electric heater in place the mancave is a bit cold for painting models.

I just need to set aside a few hours where I can paint without interruption. I think I might try to get some work done on my Ogres tonight even if I can just finish one or two of them.

Should get back into this. Just been going through my unpainted collection and some incredible sculpts in there and not too much "realism".

Also went through my painted mins and strawberry floating hell. If I can give my child self some credit, there's one I could have sworn I did relatively recent when I was 16 (I'm 25 now). Check on the bottom and it's signed 2001 - I was 12!!

I don't think I could even paint better than that now. And I'm talking approaching 'eavy metal grade painting.

Sad thing I was such a recluse as maybe I was prodigious or something.

Oh well. I need to get back into painting generally. As in oil painting.

Does anyone have any Tau going?
