It’s up in the air at the moment but the rumour is that a cop’s been murdered and at least one other person has died. There are also reports that the AR guys have shot someone, probably the perpetrator.

This is bad gooseberry fool, if you can see the red and green sign on the sky news pic, my wife usually works about 200m to the right of that sign. :dread:

EDIT: I put this in the politics thread as it may be terrorism related but I don’t know if this belongs in another thread?

From BBC:

A major police incident is under way in West George Street in the centre of Glasgow.

It is understood three people were stabbed in the stairwell of a hotel.

All three are believed to have died.

It is understood that the suspect was shot by police. It is believed the suspect is dead

gooseberry fool. I really hope this isn’t terrorism related. The rumours and horrendous takes already doing the rounds on Twitter are already bad enough.

EDIT: can the last few posts please be merged with Albear’s thread?

Seems almost certain it's some sort of terrorist attack. The Reading stabbing wasn't described as a terrorist attack in the initial early chaos, took a few hours, but not really much else this could be.

The pictures I’ve seen and the information that’s coming out suggest that the stabbings were in a hotel used for asylum seekers. My worry now is that it *was* a terrorist attack - a white supremacist. I truly hope not.

What makes something to be classified as a Terrorist attack? Genuine question.

What are people saying on Twitter, Cora?

Terrorism would be if there's a political, racial or religious motive for the attack.

Awful and horrible news. The strawberry floating state of the world at the moment.

It's almost like reporting on these incidents and continually mentioning the body count encourages copy cat behaviour...

Just round the corner from my office as well. Luckily everyone there is fine and most people (myself included) are still working from home.

Horrible situation.

A similar attack so soon after one that was highly publicised in the media? It's like irresponsible reporting has dangerous real-world consequences

Awful news, of course, I hope those impacted get the support they need

It’s a cesspit really at the moment, mostly people trying to use this to further their own agenda. BBC are running a live feed here:

I need to stress to all the people citing Reading that we have no idea what’s happened here yet. Reserve judgement for now because I have a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that there’s more to come here.

Thank you. I had wondered for a while why some attacks were labeled with terrorism but others weren't and that perfectly explains it.

Avoiding speculation entirely is probably for the best

Follow the advice to stay safe if you're near the area and otherwise wait for the more full and established news reports. My frustration is in seeing the poor reporting of the Reading incident so recently and this following the same trajectory
