The limitations on the team combos are a bit weird, like needing to always have Mario

It'll be part of the licence deal.

The other thing I don't like is spending time solving a puzzle just for a crappy 3D model or a soundtrack. I don't care about that gooseberry fool. In fact all of the walking bits in between fights is boring. I would have preferred a complete rip off of XCom by putting in a world map to look at it with base building etc

I'm not sure about this to be honest. It is the kind of weird stipulation you can imagine Nintendo enforcing but they also give Ubisoft a lot of freedom to run with it on this.

What I think is more likely is balancing the game is alot easier if you limit the potential number of team combos and keeping one slot fixed and requiring one of each from Rabbids/Mario groups significantly reduces the combos from if you could have whatever you wanted.

I just wanted a Nintendo pure squad. No minions.

I stuck with Mario, Luigi and Rabbid Peach for the whole game :shifty:

Started the Mario and Rabbids DK DLC this morning, 3 battles in and it seems to be coming back thankfully, not the best at these type of games really.

Starting to enjoy the DLC now I think I’m approx halfway through it (just opened the gate with 2 keys), the levels where you have to collect washing machine parts are awful though, it’s really not fun having to chase them from one side of the map to the other hoping you can get them sufficiently penned in :fp:

Started this today, seems fun but all a bit easy/simplistic so far. I'm still only in World 1 so hopefully more mechanics and challenge will get introduced to spice things up a bit!

It definitely ramps up although it never approaches xcom levels of punishing (but I think that's because you don't get screwed by randomised missions and rng rather than being tactically harder, and you have a lot of movement/repositioning options in Mario + Rabbids).

Team build makes a big difference too although I hit on what worked for me pretty much straight away and just stuck with it

The story mode never really becomes that difficult but the ultimate challenges definitely are more of...well, a challenge. Especially the DLC challenges.

Good to hear that it ramps up! I don't think it needs to become massively punishing or anything, but a bit more challenge and complexity to the gameplay would be appreciated. Right now it just feels like each battle is a bit of a procession - just going through the motions until the inevitable victory.

Doesn't help that buying this with the DLC looks like it has given me some OP weapons early doors - these "pixel" variants seem to be much more powerful than anything else that is available in W1.

Definitely enjoying it though, it's very nicely put together and the controls work very well!

I would avoid using any free DLC weapons for sure, they'll unbalance the game a lot.

Cool, I'll ditch them then.

I only spotted there were there during my most recent battle so I haven't got too used to having them!

Here is our game we've carefully balanced over months of playtesting, please enjoy this challenging campaign.

Also, here's a load of end game level weapons which ruin the game but will be cool for people to post pictures of in reviews.

From memory, the DLC weapons become obsolete fairly quickly, although that certainly won't be the case in World 1.

I think it ramps up around World 3, however once you reach a decent level of competence it simply becomes a case of having your equipment upgraded enough. It is very satisfying, though, and I don't remember too many instances where I could simply do whatever I want and steamroll the level unless I was going back to one to improve my score.

Hoping to get the main chunk of the dlc finished off this evening, presume I’ve just got one more fight with Rabbid Kong to go (well after a couple more standard fights). Enjoyable but I don’t think it’d have been worth paying full price for, for the few quid I got it for I can’t complain though.
