Yes, for you maybe as you and your friends probably played it growing up. For the majority however it really is bad. "If you were a pussy". I think you mean if you were a clever player who wanted to win, you would avoid the action until you were guarenteed victory. That doesn't take any skill what so ever, however if you get a time limit it rewards the player for playing well when it comes to both offense and defense.

It comes out December 3rd here I think. I know it's the 1st in Japan.

I don't think you can base that on facts. Anyway don't you see the fun in that if there was a player playing a cheap tactic, the other players would just gang up on them. It was part of the experience of pissing someone off, it's Mario Kart afterall. I'm not saying takeaway this new mode but why not keep the old way in aswell, give the player choice

Staydead. :fp:

Kids today :fp:

Who is this majority you speak of that hate the MK64 battle mode, btw? You and your friends or what?

StayDead wrote:Old battle mode was dire, you just ran away with your 3 balloons and waited for the other guys to kill each other.

This actually doesn't make any sense. If this is how it was played, then the other 3 players would be doing the same, right? Just 4 people in each corner doing nothing. A right laugh. What kind of dumbfuck would play the game like this?

How do you feel about Counter-Strike? Do you think it would be better with a time limit and respawns too?

Respawns, then.

Counterstrike is alright when played with respawns, but it depends on the game mode and how many players there are. If there were only 4 players, it'd be fine to have respawns all the time, it's just when you have teams of 8+ where it becomes too much of a clusterfuck.

All respawns does to Battle Mode in MK is reward the player who is better at using the items as if you have to respawn not only are you out of the game until you get your baloons back (putting you further behind), you also lose an extra point so for losing all your baloons you're actually going -4.

Problem with that comparison is that Counter Strike has gameplay devices in place to actively encourage movement around the map, the defence team versus the offence team, with a time limit to motivate play.

As SD said, and especially with online where only the win matters, MK players would camp, probably with a shell guarding them, to get an advantage in the opening minute or two of a match. Smaller maps would help avoid this however.

I would prefer choice of course but I feel - in the name of truly anarchic Mario Kart - that a points system is better.

Ah what, no classic battle mode? The Wii one did grow on me online but it doesn't suit 2-4 player sessions. I don't mind them having that mode but it seems weird to not include the original; surely there were enough complaints on MKWii to justify putting it back in 7? :/

It's £26.96 at Zavvi if you use the code MARIO10.

Zing! Cheers Blaine!!

Not sure whether to order at that price or wait. It's almost Christmas anyway and it's a Nintendo game so it is likely to go up in value if anything :fp:

Nintendo: Mario Kart 3DS completed as "act of emergency"
Nintendo considered completing Mario Kart 7 on 3DS by the end of this year "an act act of emergency", the game's producer has admitted.
Mario Kart 7 initially started life as an internal project staffed by eight people, producer Hideki Konno revealed in a new Iwata Asks interview (via NeoGAF).
But several production designers were moved to work on 3DS launch title Nintendogs + Cats to ensure that game was ready for the handheld's release line-up.
Nintendo eventually called on the services of Metroid Prime Trilogy and Donkey Kong Country developer Retro Studios to make sure Mario Kart 7 was finished this year.
Nintendo previously stated Retro had helped design a Donkey Kong Country-themed course. It now appears Retro worked on revamping the game's entire 16 classic courses line-up, leaving Nintendo's team free to create the game's roster of 16 fresh tracks.

Nintendogs + cats took priority over Mario Kart as a launch title.

Erm I think you missunderstand. They wanted Mario Kart out this year to help boost sales, so they sped up the production by using a ton more people (including Retro). So there was no chance in hell of getting it for release.
