It usually works okay, Poser, but I think we had a few probs because we had lots of players joining last night. What should happen is:
1) The tournament opens for entrants at 21:00. Note: There is an option to practice racing before this time; I would suggest not doing this and wait for the tournament to start. You can tell when the tournament is open as a race flag appears next to the tournament name.
2) When joining the tournament, you select your car and driver setup before entering the racing. Cool people select their Mii whilst not-quite-as-cool people select a Nintendo character instead.
3) You then get the course selection screen. Once at least two people are in this section, the racing commences.
4) If other people then join the tournament, they will watch any race that is already taking place and then join the next race.
5) In our tournament there are sixteen races and a maximum of twelve players per room. If more than twelve players join then the server will setup a second room for the additional players. All scores are recorded in a single points table behind the scenes.
6) Once a player has completed their sixteen races they will leave the tournament. They can choose to re-join (i.e. if they want to carry on playing or help other people to complete their sixteen races) by re-entering from the tournament screen or by selecting another playing friend from the in-game friend list. The score is reset to zero but the original score after the first sixteen races is logged in the final results table. You can also use these re-joining options if you get ejected from racing due to a communications error.
And that's it! The crazy carnage world of Mario Kart tournaments!
