Wow! What a night of kartin'! Crushing disappointment, furious frustration and more shells than I can remember... incredible!

Thanks to everyone who played, especially the newer guys - I hope you enjoyed* it and will be back every Monday for more :) .

* Or, at least didn't totally hate it.

Thanks for playing everyone especially Jawa staying on for extra races :toot:

It was good fun and chaos when everyone was playing pity the limit is twelve. I couldn’t get back on until pretty late but was fun.

Good to see lots of new players. I hope you all had fun and we see you back on the track next week :)

Yep that was a lot of fun, it was complete mayhem at times! Within a couple of seconds you could drop from third to last so the pressure was always on. I even managed to finish first in one race :toot: Hopefully I'll be available again next week for some more karting.

Feel abit guilty being that high when I came on late and missed alot of the carnage in my final 5-6 races with people logging off. Will try to get on earlier next week!

I briefly managed to lead a race for a while! :slol: :fp:

I took a blue shell, a red shell, then I fired a mushroom, lost control, left the track, and then I was in 12th. Classic Mario Kart.

Wouldn’t it be fairer to score it for the 16 races only from 9pm. otherwise the latecomers do get an advantage if they manage to complete their races after the carnage is over...

The people who are on time are punished. If you’re late, you shouldn’t be allowed to complete 16 races and then boost up the rankings...

How did this happen? I just joined the tournament and then suddenly a race was starting. It was a bit of a fluke that I joined the main thing - my connection dropped then when I rejoined I was spectating a race with far more people.

It felt like the game was just making the race start, tbh.

(Edit: none of that is meant to sound snarky or anything, I just want to understand the mechanics of the pre-game lobby.)

Yes I agree with this. There's noway I should be up there in 3rd in Jawa's rankings.

Jawa as you are usually a punctual fella, perhaps you could screenshot the rankings when you complete your 16?

It usually works okay, Poser, but I think we had a few probs because we had lots of players joining last night. What should happen is:

1) The tournament opens for entrants at 21:00. Note: There is an option to practice racing before this time; I would suggest not doing this and wait for the tournament to start. You can tell when the tournament is open as a race flag appears next to the tournament name.

2) When joining the tournament, you select your car and driver setup before entering the racing. Cool people select their Mii whilst not-quite-as-cool people select a Nintendo character instead.

3) You then get the course selection screen. Once at least two people are in this section, the racing commences.

4) If other people then join the tournament, they will watch any race that is already taking place and then join the next race.

5) In our tournament there are sixteen races and a maximum of twelve players per room. If more than twelve players join then the server will setup a second room for the additional players. All scores are recorded in a single points table behind the scenes.

6) Once a player has completed their sixteen races they will leave the tournament. They can choose to re-join (i.e. if they want to carry on playing or help other people to complete their sixteen races) by re-entering from the tournament screen or by selecting another playing friend from the in-game friend list. The score is reset to zero but the original score after the first sixteen races is logged in the final results table. You can also use these re-joining options if you get ejected from racing due to a communications error.

And that's it! The crazy carnage world of Mario Kart tournaments!

Not forgetting that the game will often setup a second room and throw you in it, even before the first one is full, because why the strawberry float not.

Initially it was just me and you in the lobby and I clicked to go for a practice race thinking it would just kick us out once everyone else joined the tournament but apparently not. I don't know how you then ended up in a different lobby to me once the practice race ended.

I'm not going to lie, these races shook me to my core. My belief that I am, in all things, decidedly average was proven wrong. I am a disaster. A walking, breathing disaster, a disgrace to my father's name and a terrible representative of the fine GRCade tradition of mediocrity.

I am so, so sorry. To you all.

Stick with it, Taf! I remember when I started playing Kart on the Wii U with GRcade and I finished last for (literally) about a year. It was painful. But... eventually I got gud* and you will too :) .

* "gud" as in "a little bit better".

Yeah Jawa was awful when he started. After a lot of practice and tips from us - he is now distinctly average.

I know, man, and I'm not quite sure how! You had zipped in front of me and looked like you were gonna take the flag but, on that last bend, I think you clipped the edge and I was able to sneak past. The karting was so chaotic with twelve of us battling!
