aayl1 - you did a dirty trick with the blue shell. :capnscotty:

Then I tried to do the same, but I failed.

Haha was that when it targeted you but I was in first place? I think at the time I was screaming how unfair that blue shell was but I wasn't complaining! I must have just briefly popped into 2nd when it was deciding who to hit!

Yes, you were in the lead then I saw you braked and I realised you tried to avoid the blue shell so I got it!

A few races later, I tried it on one of you, but I failed and got a hit by the blue shell. :fp:

That would be me. It was a good tactic to attempt, but I guess the blue shell had made up its mind early.

You're all in for a treat with this last wave. No track I could really fault, except for Daisy Circuit. But that's more it being one Wii track too many in the overall roster than anything to do with the track itself.

Really lovely last wave - Seemed every wave basically got progressively better :toot:

[very minor, obvious spoiler for finishing the last cup] I liked we got a little end credits and a thank you image. Weirdly hit me in the feels - nice way to cap off a year-and-a-half journey we've been on

It's been great - maybe missed a few tracks [basically all from MK64] I really would have liked - Koopa Troopa Beach  , Wario Standium, Bowsers Castle, DK Jungle Parkway.

Right, MK8 is in the past now.

Q. How many tracks do we think the base game of MK9 will have?

First games - 4 Cups of 4 races. Later 4 new cups plus 4 classic cups from previous games. MK8 on Wii U base game had 4 new and 4 classic/reimagined (then later DLC bringing totally to 12 with last 4 being a mixture of new plus reimagined classic tracks). MK8 Deluxe released on Switch as per final state of MK8 Wii U (12 cups).

What will MK9 do release with 8 cups (plus DLC arriving later?) or is releasing with 12 cups (plus DLC to arrive later) the new expectation?

See, in terms of future games, it'd be interesting to see them go back to Super Mario Kart cup sizes. Five tracks per cup, four nitro and four retro cups, making 40 tracks overall. Or, do a Super Circuit and have five cups of four tracks. Either way, it's still 40 tracks in the base game. Makes it a nice middle ground between older games and 8 Deluxe's base track selection.

Mostly, I don't really care about how many tracks there are. I more care about what we can do on them. Surely there needs to be more than just plain racing that the series can use them for?

Well they used them for Battle Mode in 8 :shifty:

Which was a terrible implementation that I wish they had actually refined and fixed for 8 Deluxe, even if they also included the regular battle mode that they did. Things like treating the track as a track rather than an arena so every track could be used. Making it so that staying in place to wait for everyone to come back around puts that person at a disadvantage. Just those two alone could have made it so much more better.

I think they should do the "Diddy Kong Racing" style where we can race with three different vehicles like a kart, boat or plane and it would be more interesting methinks.

Good ideas. I love that you are always willing games companies to push themselves and think outside of the box.

Maybe....maybe. I love DKR. With MK9 kart, boat, plane choice does sound cool or maybe all 3 for different parts of a given track which they have already implemented well in MK8 with kart, glide, hoover so could be a very natural succession in the next game :D

Yeah, I'd love a Mario Kart game like DKR.

Thanks. I always like crafting concepts for plenty of media, so it's nice to put stuff down for others to see.

For kart, plane, boat driving, unless they were going for a reboot of mechanics with fully new courses, I'd rather they keep that to a different game. Mario Kart is in a unique position when it comes to kart racers in that its flying (the gliding) is an easy to control mechanic. And underwater driving... most other kart racers would have you just transform into a boat to skim along the surface. I wouldn't want that unique edge lost. However, something does need to be done with the glider sections to make them a bit more dangerous to navigate - especially now that lightning can't drop you out of it.

As for that other game with kart, plane, boat driving... If Nintendo are insistent on keeping Miis around, give them some proper use. Have a kart racer fully centred around the Miis, with a proper career that allows the same sort of customisability of the Miis seen in Miitopia, but also the vehicles used in races. Have tracks that make full use of the transforming mechanics, whether that be keeping all racers to one of them at a time or multi-route paths that allow a choice. As for where these races take place, Mario Kart Tour chose to recreate cities. This game would take inspiration from the more natural areas of the world, using them to create original locations within the Mii-verse.

Or... y'know... give me Mii Resort Paradise and also make a Diddy Kong Racing 2.

Yes, definitely. It is hard to change anything after a huge successful with Mario Kart 8 and they would have to produce something for Mario Kart 9 or 10.

As for Diddy Kong Racing, I would love a remake of the original and it would be awesome to have two separate games.

Great to see Diddy Kong Racing chat; racing as Diddy on the Rosalina snow level did feel like Christmas 1997 all over again

Anyone playing tonight? :toot:

Yep I'll be on!

I reckon we'll do a custom room after everyone's done their 16 tourney races tonight. I'll stream the shenanigans anywho, so check my twitch or jump in the discord for the room code if you want to carry on!

Yeah, I'll be racing tonight. Custom room sounds a great idea, opening up every track to choose.

Means I can keep choosing Cheep Cheep Beach, Water Park, and Dolphin Shoals.
