Somehow. This surprises me. I almost feel it shouldn't. But yet it does. What have you actually played?

I was going to ask that question but I didn't want to hear the answer. You've doomed us all to Confessions of a jawafour: Life Before Sonic Boom and Watch Dogs.

I dunno why. It's not like I don't have any. But I am definitely up for this create-a-level stuff! I'd really enjoy making the levels and seeing if you guys can complete 'em.

When I first read that I assumed you meant 2D platformer which is bad enough...do you mean 3D platformer as well?

I'm starting to wonder whether you actually play any games at all. Mario Karters, is there any way you lot can confirm the guy who shows up to race is the same one who posts on the forum?

Not for certain. But his only win proves that he is at least.......... not very experienced.

Jawa, it'd be a good idea for you to download and play Super Mario World (and then possibly Super Mario Bros 3 after that) to see how the games work - give you a good feel for what makes a great level, before you start trying to design your own.

Suddenly all the Sonic Boom rubbish from Jawa makes sense, hes never played an actual good platformer.

Wasn't he instrumental in the recent replaying of Banjo-Kazooie?

In which case he's played at least one good platformer...

Why you would actively avoid Mario though. :fp:

I didn't think it was possible to play games as a hobby and avoid Mario altogether.

It sounds like a pipe dream.

Woah there, guys!

Don't worry - I grew up on platformers. Manic Miner, Jet Set Willy, Perils of Willy, 2049er, Big Mac The Mad Maintenance Man, Hero of The Golden Talisman, Montezuma's Revenge... I really enjoy the genre. I'd place VVVVVV as one of my all-time faves and (shock!) I actually completed the main game on the 3DS.

I love the 3D platformers, too. Spyro on the PS1 was fantastic, Banjo was terrific, and I even like the modern stuff like Boom and Pac Ghostly. Man, I've even got 3D Loderunner on the N64. Now that is bad :-).

I have dabbled with Mario and I do own most of the titles, but for some reason I've never really put time into them. I did play GameBoy's Super Mario Land but couldn't complete it. I keep meaning to get around to the others but something else has always come along.

But, hey...I guess I've by-passed some classics and I need to put that right. I'll dig one of them out and experience the magic.

I can see this getting a sequel, featuring content from the Kirby game series, and eventually also sequels with Zelda and Metroid themes. Granted, the Zelda one might have to be a Dungeon Maker, and Metroid's a mini-world maker but I think it would be cool to see the concept taken into other franchises. Sega could partner up with them to do a Sonic Maker, as well. Easy money.

Yeah it's a concept that has a lot of mileage. I wouldn't be averse to buying some DLC to this to add in more Mario themes. Even could do Wario DLC, that's not just more tiles but functionality too.

Imagine being able to make your own Super Metroid sequel *dreams*

Imagine curated DLC, a collection of levels made by Miyamoto or Koizumi? :o

Save that for the sequel that lets you make Mario 64/3D World-style levels :shifty:

I reckon that there will be some very clever people who will be able to design Zelda-type dungeons anyway using the Link sprite unlocked with amiibo. The game has enough customisation to produce dungeon-esque platforming (much like the bits in Zelda 1 where Link finds a weapon in the dungeons).
