It's a separate game. Nintendo couldn't release it as DLC for Super Mario Party because they wouldn't be able charge £49.99 for it.
Mario Party Superstars is Not “Lazy” *Slight SPOILERS for Superstars*
A lot of people are calling this game Lazy, but I don’t think you know exactly what that really means.
There are plenty of things they have done that they did NOT need to do:
* Remade Victory Themes for each MP Game’s respective Minigames
(they could’ve just made 1 simple jingle, and be done with it).
* Custom Title Screens for each Board, Mario Party 1 style
(they coulda used an image of the Piece of Art from the Cover, slapped ‘Press +/-‘ on it, and there you go.)
* Option to use the Original Board Music
* 7 Different Online Minigame Modes
* The completely new Option to extend the Turn Count mid-game (I don’t think ANYONE asked for this, but they made it anyway)
* Make the Main Menu a remake of Mushroom Village from MP 1 (they coulda made a colorful screen with all the options on it and called it a day).
* Many of the Sound Effects, including the rolling of the dice being the exact sound effects from the old games
* Mario on the cover, being almost an exact replica of the original Mario Party 1’s boxart, from Mario’s Pose, to the numbers on the die being the exact same.
* Animating completely new Animations for the characters
* Making Unique Winner Reveal Scenarios for each Board to announce the Superstar
If they WERE Lazy, and just doing the bare minimum, they’d just put what they needed:
* 5, shoddy-looking Boards
(Regardless of if you like the art style of the Boards or not, graphically, the Boards look incredible, especially for the Switch)
* 100 Unpolished, buggy Minigames
* Free Play Mode for Minigames
* No Extra Minigame Modes
* No Shop
* No addition features
and ship it.
You can call Mario Party Superstars “Low in Content” if you want to, but it isn’t low effort. There’s a difference. It’s clear that they put a lot of love into this project.
