It's not great - but I quite like it; though I am quite easily please - my favourite game of all time is Tetris.
It's very simple gameplay and now the Switch is Nintendo sole console hosting both 'AAA' type game and supposedly traditional handheld games I'd encourage proper portable games like this existence. There is A LOT of content in this game and unfortunately the best of this game is post-credits.
Pre-credits, just to confirm it didn't really get much more challenging as you progressed. If you
really didn't like the gameplay pre-credits, it might not be worth playing until the end (and it's annoying having to play through the main game to get to the better stuff!).
But I'm having a good time on the post-credit stuff. It basically gives you;
(1) The same levels again but recontextualised where you have to guide / protect a mini-mario through. This introduces a little strategy and puzzle solving
(2) Time trials - fun and introduces some challenge
(3) 16 Expert levels - by far the games best levels - quite clever design, a little harder
