How do you pronounce it?

I've always said Marry-oh but I only ever seem to hear people say Mah-ree-oh. Is it a British/American accent thing?

Possibly, but Marryoh is what Marryoh says so I say Marryoh. See also: Yoshi/Yoeshi.

Marry-oh, and anyone who pronounces it differently is an idiot.

Marry? Oh...

Incidentally I've been saying Pock-e-mon for over twenty years simply because I first heard about it in N64 Magazine as a Japanese import, and figured Pocket Monsters was meant to carry through into the shortened name.

Exactly the same here, right down to the magazine.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone pronounce it Mah-ree-oh. Do people really say that?

It seems more to be Marry-oh (Brits) and Morry-oh (US) that I hear the most.

Possibly Pokey-mon if I'm feeling naughty.

I've always said Marry-oh, too. Fairly certain it's just a hideous American pronunciation when it's 'Mar-ee-oh', like Craig/Creg!

I say it exactly like Peach does in the intro to Mario 64:

EDIT: Here is how Mario himself(!) says it:

Which I think matches as well.
