Eternals getting a lot of average/mediocre reviews from British media.

Also from The Guardian:

That’s the problem: there’s just too much going on: it’s all headed towards yet another “race against time to stop the really bad thing happening” climax. It’s not exactly boring – there’s always something new to behold – but nor it is particularly exciting, and it lacks the breezy wit of Marvel’s best movies. One of the strengths of the MCU to date is how it has taken time to define each character individually and lay out the grand narratives over successive movies, building a sense of momentum. Here, it’s all thrown at us at once. It’s like coming into Avengers: Endgame cold without having seen any of the preceding instalments. Most mortals will simply find it too much. Bigger isn’t always better.

"Not exactly boring". The reviews I've seen have been very reflective of those generic dull trailers.

My expectations were always on the lower side for this one, but it's still disappointing to see it getting such a poor reception.

I still maintain that despite having a handful of "meh" movies, they've never had one I would say was actually properly "bad". Hopefully this will be at least as good as those "meh" movies as I'm not ready for them to have a genuinely shite movie.

Wasn’t interested in it anyway as they seemed to be introducing too much too soon, just throw all this celestial god servants vs Deviant stuff at us, yeah ok. Seems like one of the main gripes.

Shame because it's a pretty amazing cast and director. Seems like they've made the DC mistake of trying to do too much at once.

The guardian film reviews tend to be very stuck up. I wouldn’t trust them for their opinion. If you think it might be of interest to you then go and see it and make your own mind up.

This has nothing to do with the film's quality, but I guess if they'd known there was going to be such a long gap between End Game and Phase 4, they might not have started with two films about characters most non-comic fans (and even a fair few comic fans?) won't have heard of. Squeezed between the big name End Game and Spider-Man, it probably looked a great time to introduce new characters a few years back.

I wonder if they're opening a door for Miles Morales to feature.

Would love to be able to go into this film blind from here on but pretty sure that's going to be impossible from the moment a second trailer is released.

Feels a very long time since a film has had this much hype around it, even more than Infinity War and Endgame.

I guess those screenshots are from Sony's version of trailer #2, I can't believe they'd show those in a trailer, but I guess... Sony :fp: at this point the next few years of Marvel stuff has been leaked and confirmed unless they can drastically change stuff

I would recommend avoiding looking at them if you can do that for yourself.

I've been thinking an after-credits scene could introduce Miles Morales.

I'm normally so good at avoiding spoilers, I don't even watch trailers these days, but my god I want to click those spoiler boxes so bad :slol:

Really enjoyed Shang Chi, although just like Black Widow, I feel like it all gets a little messy at the end where it's just a big CGI fight (also, the CGI throughout the film seems pretty bad for a film produced by such a wealthy studio?). I know it's a comic book movie, and big CGI fights are going to happen, but it just so happens the flow of these last two was very, very similar. I do think they did well with the comedy moments though. But I have a question for people who are familiar with these characters from the comics...

I remember the fuss over them turning the Mandarin into a joke in Iron Man 3, and then the talk of oh no, the actual Mandarin IS out there, and he's pissed about this. Shang Chi's Dad doesn't really seem like he's the Mandarin either though? The way he tells the story of the Iron Man 3 villains coming up with the Mandarin name itself etc. So we still don't really have a movie version of that character? I've never really come across the character in comics, but people seemed to deem him cool enough that they got upset by IM3
