Waiting for Dr Strange to start. I'm expecting lots of deaths as it won't matter as they are multiverse variants.

Back from the moving picture show

it was an interesting film, okay overall. Certainly not the best marvel film. But then I wasn't a fan of the first Dr strange film either. I preferred him in avengers infinity war and Spiderman's too be honest.
I was right about the deaths. Wow  there were a few gasps when Reed appeared. Obviously none for Xavier as that was in the trailers.
Quite good to see them write out Wanda for a while. Her tomb can obviously be reopened at some point in the future.

On the mid credits scene, who was the lady who turned up for Dr Strange?

Indeed it was. Really wasn’t expecting that. Thoroughly enjoyed the movie, will likely go and see it again soon!

I loved how dark it was, by Marvel standards. Some proper horror vibes at times and mildly off putting imagery that is way beyond anything we've seen so far. Wanda genuinely creeped my kids out at points!

I think Elizabeth Olsen crushed it in this, played Wanda brilliantly as a tragic and broken figure. I know not everyone was a fan of Wandavision but I bought into it big time and think they paid it off so well here

Back from Doctor Strange 2.

I was worried the relatively short film would mean pacing was rushed but no concerns on that. Lots of storyline development for the wider MCU. Like No Way Home, it's definitely a film that benefits from being up to date on many superhero movies / shows.

Enjoyed the film although the action scenes with magic are generally not as entertaining to watch compared to more physical combat fights.

I liked seeing Dr Strange going through many universes, in 1 it really looked like he was dressed as Superman. Will be a clip to watch in slow motion to appreciate the different styles. Half expected to see a Simpsons universe.

There will be some very scared children in cinemas during the scene with Professor X in the sub conscious mind of Wanda! Easily the scariest MCU movie.

I enjoyed Doctor Strange. However (spoilers inside)

I wasn’t blown away, I actually felt it was one of the weaker Marvel films. The throwbacks to XMen animated series (the theme song  ), and Stewart, Mr Fantastic and Carter were amazing.
I felt the humour even for a Marvel Film was hit and miss, sometimes good other times a bit too forced.

But yeah I enjoyed it for what it was

I think there’s probably a lot of families/kids that will go into this not realising there are some quiet jumpy parts and some horror elements even for a 12A which may not be expected

You mean Steve Jobs Xavier!

I really enjoyed the movie, easily in my top 5 MCU films. I went by myself and so had to be quiet. I was biting down on my hand when Reed Richards appeared.

Loved the live action Captain Carter as well. Hayley Atwell is always welcome on screen  but I hope they find the time to give her a proper movie.

Did anyone else spot the 1990's X-Men theme incidental play when Xavier appeared as well? That one raised a smile! Props for the 1990's Xavier wheelchair as well.

Getting Anson Mount back to play Black Bolt was either inspired or insulting, especially as he kind of looks like Sphinx from Mystery Men.

My favourite part was 'that' scene

Reminded me of Invincible. Shame it wasn't a higher age rating so they could lean into the horror a bit more.

Dr Strange question

WHat did Mom-Wanda say to Scarlet-Witch Wanda at the end?

Something along the lines of "know that they will be loved" I think?

Yeah that's what she said. A couple of people in my cinema struggled to hear that too.

I don't really get Stange's character. It seems to flip flop a lot.

After he learns how to use his powers and during the avengers films he's super responsible and stoic.

Then for some reason in the more recent films they decided to try and make him Tony Stark 2.0

I'd really enjoy him a lot more if he was more of a straight man and the other characters made quips.

As for the film, there were a lot of sequences that seemed to serve no purpose other than to be a homage to something or be quirky. And they really took me out of the film.

The foremost being the music notes scene and the scene where Wanda is stalking them through the tunnels.

Just back from DS2, initial thoughts

1. Wow, how did they manage to squeeze a 12A rating?
2. Further to that, I wish they'd let Raimi loose with a 15 instead.
3. Reed Richards went out like a bitch. Has the MCU finally got Wanda's power scaling right?

Regarding 3 definitely not.

One minute she'stearing an entire fortress of sorcerers apart single handedly, then the next it takes her 2 minutes to beat a strong woman with a shield. When she literally just shredded a guy to pieces with her mind.

She also has telekinetic powers but chooses to slowly walk after 3 people in a tunnel, despite still having the power to disintegrate reinforced doors
.

I like her as a character but her powers are a mess because she's she so insanely powerful that they either have to make her dumb or come up with a Deus ex machina. Makes it really hard to be invested in the stakes.

GOTG and Spiderman will always be my favourite series because their powers are pretty grounded. Power creep has definitely ruined some of the stories this phase for me. Captain Marvel was the start of it. Though apparently she can smash through a ship but a statue falling on her kills her

Dr strange 2 - 9/10

Best marvel movie since infinity war. Very much old school Raimi with countless call backa to Evil Dead, Drag me to Hell and other classic horrors like Carrie.

Pacing was excellent, Dr Strange has grown into a worthy successor to Ironman.

Music was used masterfully and it's great to see a bad guy who instills dread like Thanos did. I suspect this year will go down as the best year for Marvel with 3 directors who know their stuff being able to do what they want with their characters.

Spider-Man No Way Home got me excited for Marvel again, this really takes it up another level. Less about nostalgia, and more about quality film making and story telling.

Wish my image sig would work

One question, is this Danny Elfman's first MCU movie?
