Needed more time to flesh everything out

Would make a better film (that has a shorter runtime than the show) :capnscotty:

The series we got needed to be longer.

*pause*

It would have been better to be a film instead of a series in the first place.

Is what I meant

You guys are far too harsh on What If. I've enjoyed them all.

Problem with the TV shows is how they all just feel like the middle film in a trilogy. A lot of build up and set up but can never actually wrap everything up or do anything too crazy.

I guess they're designed in a way to ultimately be fairly inconsequential so people who only watch the movies can mostly keep up.

Fairly inconsequential? They've introduced a super powerful Scarlet Witch, a new Captain America and opened up the entire MCU to a multiverse with a new big bad.

Yeah, they're definitely not inconsequential!

But for movie watchers, Scarlet Witch was already super powerful, Falcon had already been given the shield so was effectively now the new Captain America and I guess the big bad it depends how he turns up in the movies. His introduction in Loki was confusing anyway and seemed only meaningful for people who know the comics.

Not saying there's anything wrong with the shows going into more detail about it all, but they're easily skippable.

I've never read the comics and it seemed easy enough to follow. I've no idea if his backstory or what he does in the comics, but it's pretty clear his variants are going to shake the MCU up.

It's a lot more than Scarlet Witch being powerful though. She's now looking for her kids that are now teenager. That's going to be fairly confusing if you skipped it.

Falcon is likely the most skippable because the main thing you need to know is he took up the shield. But then there's the US Agent backstory which will come into play in the future. Plus Zemo is back out there.

Loki is clearly going to have big ramifications for Dr Strange 2 and maybe Spiderman and probably beyond to the big bad. I dont agree with your criticism of He Who Remains either. I have no idea about the comics and I didn't find his introduction confusing or less memorable.

The shows are all going to have plenty of influence on the movies. Yes you could say they are skippable you just need to know xyz but that doesn't make them inconsequential-you can say the same thing about a lot of the films.

Oddly the only unskippable thing in the entire MCU appears to be Thor 2 as it's referenced in everything.

Fair points fair points, maybe inconsequential wasn't the right word but I do still think they're planned in a way that they can be easily skipped because it's a hard sell to expect the masses to subscribe and sit down for an extra 15+ hours of content.

Be interesting to see how the movies do handle it, if they stick a quick recap to the beginning or just trust that fans who watched the shows know what's going on and fans who didn't can just go along with it.

Let's just file Ep 7 under 'What the strawberry float were they thinking?'

That’s pretty much always been the case for the TV shows. They are there to expand on existing storylines and characters that would get background time in the movies.

You can still watch a movie without watching other movies or media and still understand the main plot line of that particular movie.
