Apparently you’ll need them at the beginning of the movie. Best to be safe

Capt Marvel. Straight into the top tier of Marvel films.

Larson is superb. Her chemistry with her co stars especially Jackson is fantastic. Done fantastically well with some smart fun poking at stereotypes and great humour. Excellent pop culture references and music of the period.
Above all though - when she really let's loose as a super hero - it's strawberry floating magic. For me -shes smashed it.

I enjoyed it but it didn't leave a strong impression on me and I don't know why. Larson was great, I enjoyed the plot, the 90s time period and the action sequences. I'm hoping it was because I'm not feeling 100% today (probably shouldn't have gone tbh). I'll have to go and watch it again I think

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

I enjoyed it, but I thought it took a while to get into top gear.

Pros:
- Brie Larson is great. The thing I loved most is that there was a full sequence of her just cutting loose and really enjoying her new powers. I feel like there’s isnt enough of that from female superheroes, as if filmmakers are frightened to show exuberance. It was great to see.
- Ben Mendehlson is great. Not much else to say, just really enjoyed his performance. I’ve never seen him in anything bad.
- the cat
- Jude Law following Kurt Russell’s lead and playing toxic masculinity incarnate was great, and he pulls off slimy and arrogant really well.
- The setting was really nostalgic and well done.
- I didn’t really notice the anti-ageing CGI on Sam Jackson.
- The space scenes look magnificent, as always. I want more from the MCU galactic stuff

Cons
- I really noticed the CGI on Lee Pace and also a bit on Coulson
- as I said, the movie was a little slow to hit its stride. It was a little janky before they got into the Pegasus base
- I would’ve liked to see a bit more of Hala
- Also Starforce are under-utilised, especially Minn-Erva

When it clicked though, it really strawberry floating clicked. I’ll see this a few more times.

Not yet! I have no one to go with

I’ll hopefully see it next week! I don’t know much about this movie either (or the character in general) other than watching the very first trailer and a review of the opening part of the movie. I’m kind of more excited about the potential for Rogue in the future though than Marvel herself :shifty:

I loved that little tribute to Stan Lee.

I enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would having never been a fan of Carol as Ms. Marvel and not seeing much from her run as Captain Marvel. I did feel Brie was a little too soft-spoken at first but she was fantastic in the role and it was great seeing her interaction with younger versions of some characters. I want more Carol and Fury adventures, damn it!.

Carol growling back at one of the Skrull.

Saw it earlier today (in one of the worst cinema trips I've had for people behaving like arseholes). Really enjoyed it, wouldn't put it in top tier Marvel but I preferred it to the likes of Ultron and Doctor Strange.

Loved
That Stan Lee rewrite of the Marvel logo at the beginning was utterly brilliant
The cat - looks just like one of my cats
Larson - really owned the character
Fury - the de-ageing was very well done, I'd say maybe better than GOTG2 as Fury had so much screen time and it never looked odd (like Coulson did on a couple of occasions)
Head Skrull - top notch performance
The tie up with GOTG, though it did make Jude Law's character pretty obviously evil from early on
The comedy was pretty good, fitted naturally with The character and never seemed forced
The 1st post credit was awesome, even more pumped for Endgame now
Annette Bening - still looks hot

Not so keen
Thought the soundtrack wasn't that great aside from Celebrity Skin kicking off the credits
Didn't think Jude Law was that great
Would have liked more Coulson but only with better cgi
Couldn't work out the Tesseract time line

Oh and my favourite bit among the whole film was Stan reading the Mallrats script. Kevin Smith must have been in pieces.

100% agree with you, I think I would happily have a Larson and Jackson buddy cop film they were that good together.

As for the Stan Lee Cameo, when I saw it I immediately thought "wow Kevin smith must be buzzing" then I saw his tweet

I watched Captain Marvel on Friday. Better on reflection. Initially i gave it a 6/10. A bit cheesy in places, but good on the whole. 7/10 maybe 8.

Odin gives it to Vikings. Red skull takes it from Norway in Captain America the First Avenger. It goes into the Sea with Captain America. Iron Mans dad finds it after war. Shield gives it to Annette Benning. She uses it to create power source and then puts it on ship. Cat eats on ship. Cat pukes back up on Furys desk. Fury gives to Padmes physicist mate in Thor. Loki takes it at start of Avengers assemble. Once Loki is defeated, Thor takes Tesseract back to Asgard. Loki took it at the end of Ragnorok. Then Thanos took it off Loki at the start of Infinity war. Does that sound about right?

EDIT:

I managed to spot the cat in the cinema 30s 8-)
