According to Deadline, the decision was made by Disney executives months ago after he publicly apologised in July and took blame for the incident.

Weird.

It’s definitely feeling like they were waiting for a big story to come up and take the heat off this announcement from the alt-right/conservative anti-Gunn folks. That doesn’t sit very well with me.

This would seem a bit of a stretch though. Surely there has been some kind of big news story since July if that was Disney's plan? Like the terror attack at the synagogue in Pittsburgh was in October, which would be a similar event to yesterday if that's what they were waiting for?

Yeah I know, the timing just feels weirdly off to me. I can't really place it.

Actually, my initial reaction was that they'd released the info now, after this massacre, because they were, in fact, trying to ride the wave of anti-alt-right/Nazi/white supremacist sentiment currently (and, most likely, very briefly) present in the media at the moment. A reason just as despicable as the one you suggest.

Yeah, actually. I think that's what I was trying to say. It just seemed like a very calculated release of information to take advantage of certain circumstances.

But then, as Cutty says, there was a similar brief railing against the right after the synagogue killings and all the stuff from October as well - if they'd rehired him at that point it would've been an equally good time to make the announcement.

So I dunno, maybe it's just me being a bit weird.

Yeah, who knows? I think we can all be, justifiably, cynical about Disney's motivations at this point.

Saw CM at the weekend and really enjoyed myself. Still don't think it's top tier Marvel - but it's a really good film and sits in their high quality stable easily.

I think the main thing that carried this film - the cast are having fun. Everyone seems to be enjoying themselves (Ben Mendleson must be on a diet after all the scenery he chewed) and that carries through their performances and gives the whole thing a sense of boundless energy. It's a regular thing with Marvel films, that really helps them be fun to watch.

I loved the ending

Also saw CM at the weekend and I was similarly happy with it. It's not top tier MCU, but it's high middle.

Funny in all the right parts.
Goose
Loved how Fury lost his eye.
Coulson CGI :dread:
Fury CGI :toot:
Dark Knight Rises/Rogue One guy was great as always. (Mendehlson?)
The Stan Marvel logo and his cameo later in the movie.
Loved the credit sequences. I'm assuming the first one will be an actual scene from Endgame though (Like the Civil War scene at the end of Ant-Man), as I can't imagine she's just gonna be there from the start.

All in I really enjoyed it. I did feel it was a bit flat in places and the first half wasn't amazing. But it was still solid and enjoyable.

Can't wait for Endgame now!  :toot: :toot:

At 12:02 a.m. Eastern Time tomorrow, March 20, 2019, The Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox will become effective. With 21st Century Fox’s iconic collection of businesses and franchises, Disney will be able to provide more appealing high-quality content and entertainment options to meet growing consumer demand; increase its international footprint; and expand its direct-to-consumer offerings, which include ESPN+ for sports fans, the highly-anticipated Disney+ streaming video-on-demand service launching in late 2019; and Disney and 21st Century Fox’s combined ownership stake in Hulu.

(They definitely don't)

Well, the end credit shorts could be interesting.

Perhaps Wolverine bumping into Ironman?
