Saw Spiderman Far From Home earlier today, thought it was pretty good, tempted to give Homecoming another watch now.

Because she's a really good actress who plays the role very well?

Do you have a specific reason to hate her?

Yeah, while I was ultimately disappointed by the Captain Marvel Film, Brie Larson is great.

I can't really think of anyone else who would've played the role well, either. Can't see any problem with Brie Larson personally.

Yeah ok "hate" is admittedly a heavily played up reaction
I do dislike her tho, I haven't seen a huge amount of films she's been in, but in the ones I have seen she's been arguably the least memorable part. This is particularly true for Endgame where in a universe of superheroes she still ends up feeling like some kind of deus ex machina who feels like she doesnt need to be in the film. I haven't seen Captain Marvel since MCU films for the most part don't interest me enough for me to want to see them until they come on sky cinema like half a year later, so maybe I'm missing context but I don't think that changes what she is in avengers.

Additionally her manner in interviews doesn't always sit well with me, like that one where she's asked what it's like to be a woman in film, and then adds a statement about coloured women, which came off as entirely disingenuous(additionally within the context of the interview it's a huge faux pas as it's a white person being interviewed by a black person, which is very typical of the kind of unconscious middle class racism that I've seen a lot of). Then of course there's the interview where she talks about a Wrinkle in Time, where while she brings up a lot of good points; she goes on to largely dismiss criticism at the film (largely levelled at the actual FILM MAKING aspect of it) because of the the prevalence of white males in film criticism. That to me, came off as a relatively privileged white woman using the very real issue of representation in industry to deflect criticism from a product she cares about, where said criticism has very little do with any facet of representation.

I'm sure her heart's in the right place, especially considering her advocacy, but she seems out of touch in a lot of ways

From what I've seen of her, she's pretty fit but comes across as a bit bland and expressionless in her performances. I'm sure she's put in some great performances, I just haven't seen them yet.

I'd still like to see it.

And how was she responding to critical comments if she was the only one speaking?

She used the phrase 'women of colour' which is quite some distance away from coloured women.

it was in response to pre existing criticism

Again, I agree with a lot of what she's saying here, but parts of it come off as dismissive and at worst exploitative

also strawberry float the channel that links to is uhhhhhhhhhhhh yikes

Nothing in that speech is in anyway exploitative.

If you think that's the case then, and I genuinely mean this in the nicest, literal sense possible, please educate yourself as to why what she's saying matters. If you're using the phrase 'coloured women' interchangeably with 'women of colour'... there's some work to be done there.

So rather than going into thanks friends, family, she raises a social issues?

Where (timestamp) is her trying to dismiss criticism? Or even respond to criticism? The closet you get is

“I don’t want to hear what a white man has to say about ‘A Wrinkle in Time.’ I want to hear what a woman of color, a biracial woman has to say about the film. I want to hear what teenagers think about the film.”

“If you make a movie that is a love letter to women of color, there is a chance that a woman of color does not have access to review and critique your film,” she said, while revealing plans to roll out an opt-in program that will provide studios with access to underrepresented journalists and critics. “Do not say the talent is not there, because it is.”

Larson commended Women in Film for having diverse representations on the carpet at the ceremony, while challenging “decision-makers” in the room to make an effort to create a more inclusive industry both on and off-screen.

She concluded with a challenge to publicists and decision-makers in the room, encouraging them to revisit their press line and junket invites to ensure they are inclusive of underrepresented journalists. “Please make sure that these invites and credentials find their way to more underrepresented journalists and critics, many of whom are freelancers.”

(Quoted from an article not that strawberry floating channel)

And it doesn't actually mention whether the review she's not interested in was positive or negative was it?

(I don't have sound so I'm relying on auto-gened CC and other websites)

But you're pretty much repeating lots of the exact same talking points as they are? :?
